What The Good Book Says

When considering the actions, product boycotts, and stances taken against the LGBTQ community by those waving banners of righteousness and family values, let us better understand the goals of the righteous by looking to the fount of values fueling such actions: The Bible.

If I were to draw inspiration from the Bible, I might take pause from the oft-cited Leviticus 18:22 and Corinthians 6:9-10 passages to weigh the strength of other messages such as The Book’s overwhelming message of love, acceptance and equality.

For instance…

The Book says (Romans 2:11): “For God shows no partiality.”

It does not say: For God shows no partiality … except for members of the LGBTQ community.

The Book says (Genesis 1:27): “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

It does not say: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them … except for members of the LGBTQ community.

The Book says (Acts 10:34-35) ”I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.”

It does not say: I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right … except for members of the LGBTQ community.

The Book says (Galatians 3:27-28) "As many of you were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus."

It does not say: As many of you were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus … except for members of the LGBTQ community.

The Book says (John 3:16): “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

It does not say: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life …except for members of the LGBTQ community.

The Book says (John 13:34): “A new command I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”

It does not say: A new command I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another … except for members of the LGBTQ community.

Is it really so hard to focus on the love, acceptance and equality part?
