Also known as the Golden Section, Golden Mean, Divine Proportion or Greek letter Phi, The Golden Ratio = 1.61803398875 to be exactly precise
As per wikipedia, (our favourite) In mathematics, two quantities are in the golden ratio if their ratio is the same as the ratio of their sum to the larger of the two quantities.
The definitions of everything are often the least interesting part so let's get straight to business. Golden Ratio has always been existent in Nature. Practically speaking, we never created but only discovered it.
After learning about the concept for the first time, It was a curiosity to know why did it appeal so much to the human eye, why does it feel right by default. The only right explanation to this lies in the fact that familiarities and optical balance go hand in hand. We've seen things and they have retained in our memories and by default, our brain picks up the aspect ratio of everything we see. Known as the Fibonacci Series, It is also found in the ferns, flowers, sea shells, even hurricanes - indeed, nature at its finest!
Every designer (especially the logo designers) are obsessed with the Golden Ratio. Here's Why!
The ratio fosters organic and natural looking compositions that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. This also forms a basis for cross checking and optically correcting a logo/design.
In design, the Golden Ratio boils down to aesthetics— creating and appreciating a sense of beauty through harmony and proportion.
The whole idea of a good design always trickles down to aesthetics, exactly what WE also live for; everything else just falls under our 'aesthetic-al' Blanket!
