What is going on?

It's all about the people but how in-tune are you with your fellow humans? 

Sustainable, thriving, high-performing cultures are all about understanding people. Obviously, I hear you cry, but how many of you are investing time to really understand what is going on? The only way you unlock the power of your people is by knowing what is really going on.

Creating trust, psychological safety, taking time to have meaningful conversations is our role as a leader and must be a priority. We of course must understand the health of our business operationally, top, and bottom-line results, our customers, are we achieving our targets and growth ambition, but in parallel, of equal importance, is what is going on with your people. The only way you will successfully navigate change, uncertainty, and building a sustainable business, fully embracing the future of work is through understanding what is going on for your people.

Be clear with your purpose, co-create strategies, be clear on goals and priorities, but also ensure that you really understand your culture and talent to enable your biggest impact. Taking time to health check your business to understand what is and is not working, proactively acting is fundamental but unless you connect hearts and minds in the process how will you continue to evolve,  build a hybrid business that really does help your people and you to have high impact and thrive?

Really like this idea of fully leveraging and appreciating everyone in the organization, tapping into their talents and energies. It was one of the theses of Marcus Buckingham's First, Break All the Rules: Rather than trying to make everyone "well rounded," lean hard into each person's natural strengths, and create a team that, collectively, has all the skills and competencies the organization needs.
