We live in a culture of immediacy, amplified by the internet era, that has made impatience the norm. We desire results and instant gratification as if everything should have been delivered yesterday.
Viral stories caught our attention. We marvel at the rise of individuals showcased in TikTok videos, hoping to capture that lightning in a bottle. The allure of the lottery promises a life-altering transformation with just a pick $ 2 or pick $ 10 ticket. And who can resist the promises of fad weight-loss diets or a miracle pill, despite knowing deep down their efficacy is dubious at best?
Then there's the greed hoax of instant wealth, whether through a single stock pick or a valuable piece of art, a bitcoin, enchanting us with the prospect of an early retirement.
Media headlines perpetuate this obsession with instant-fame, instant- wealth, and instant-success, feeding into a cycle of unrealistic expectations and disappointment. This obsession has sprouted some issues such as:
Equating instant success with sustained effort over time may seem counterintuitive, but that's precisely what it entails.
While a viral video or a breakthrough pill may be part of someone's path to success, they are merely fractals of a long journey. They capture headlines and serve as clickbait for advertisers but fail to capture the whole reality of the struggle and dedication required for genuine achievement.

As a New Yorker who has witnessed the pre-dawn rituals of Central Park runners enduring freezing temperatures, I can only grasp the 耐克 slogan: Just Do it!
Marathons are the quintessential essence of sustained effort amidst instant gratification. They demand dedication, resilience, and the willingness to push past the limits of comfort and convenience.
While I've never participated in a marathon myself, I admire them for their authenticity and refusal to the illusions of instant success. They are an ineffable reminder that genuine achievement is born from perseverance and resilience, not shortcuts or sprints.
To excel in a marathon—or any aspect of life—one must cultivate the ability to endure, to silence the self-talk of the psyche, and to persevere in the face of adversity. Success demands effort and a willingness to rest when necessary, resisting the temptation to quit.

If the prospect of investing years into achieving success seems daunting, you're not alone. Comedian Matt Rife 's recent viral fame offers a sobering reminder of the often-overlooked truth behind overnight success stories. Despite the perception of instant success, Rife's journey was a decade-long odyssey marked by relentless effort, countless setbacks, and an almost quit before the threshold of his viral TikTok video. ?
His experience underscores the ten-year rule Nobel Laureates Simon & Chase proposed: true greatness often requires a decade of intensive labor.
However, success is not guaranteed solely by the passage of time. While perseverance is undeniably linked to success, numerous variables contribute to the elusive phenomenon of viral fame or professional achievement.
In the corporate world, CEOs typically invest a minimum of ten years—and often much longer, sometimes a lifetime —climbing the organizational ladder. Yet, longevity alone does not guarantee success; complacency and stagnation pose significant risks to those who fail to adapt and evolve.
According to Dr. Simonton of UC Davis, continual learning and diversification of expertise serve as antidotes to professional obsolescence. To steer their organizations through an ever-changing landscape, today's CEOs must possess a breadth of knowledge spanning diverse domains, from artificial intelligence to public policy, organizational psychology, while still holding onto perseverance.
In essence, achieving lasting success—whether in the realm of viral fame or corporate leadership—requires more than sprints. It demands unwavering dedication, resilience in the face of adversity, and a willingness to embrace the long and arduous journey toward greatness.
