What Is The Goal Of Visual Management?
A picture is worth a thousand words...
The purpose of Visual management is to facilitate the transmission of information between large numbers of people of all levels. It facilitates the achievement of day-by-day improvement and provides a permanent display of the different messages and indicators required for teams to complete the various missions assigned to them. Concretely, this involves implementing simple, effective displays, easy to use and with striking effect, grouping relevant qualitative and quantitative information in spaces that are friendly and welcoming.
BAD PRACTICES
There are frequent problems that cause a considerable waste of time and can prevent the success of a project or procedure, for example:
- A non-structured board without clear visual notices.
- Illegible documents or over-complex graphs.
- Too many, or badly presented notices.
- Frequent non-defined practices.
SAVE TIME
The life of a company essentially revolves around good communication, and company performance greatly depends on a good understanding of the messages issued at every level. Communication is never a cut-and-dried notion; the challenge in a company is, therefore, to devise and implement a visual management system that gets everybody interested and involved. Signs and images are the two most powerful communication channels between people across space and time. Objective: to put people at the core of the company. The three factors Motivation, Skills, and Communication are linked. They are complementary, inseparable and interactive. What brings people closer in a company is human relations, human faces, the value of one’s work, the securing of relations, trust.
OPERATOR WORKSTATION
VISUAL INDICATOR
Each operator completes their own indicators on a panel in the middle of production lines. This system “without informatics” allows everyone to follow the production.
ISLAND/AUTONOMOUS
GROUPS MORNING BRIEFING OR TOP 5
At each production staff change, people in charge of workshops transmit to the operators in 5 minutes about the progress report of the order and the encountered difficulties. A point on the indicators is also carried out.
SECTOR
INFORMATION POINT
A panel is located at the beginning of each production line. For the employees, it allows to round up quickly the news on the performance of the team through the indicators Quality, Costs, Deadline, Maintenance, Planning, Approaches in progress, etc…
COMMUNICATION AREA
The communication area represents a total view of the factory. The customer is the central link between operators and direction. This organisation allows each one to follow the synthetic indicators, such as Quality, Costs, Deadline, Motivation (Human Resources), Safety, Environment as well as the company policy, new products, customers… A pleasant user-friendly area can be developed by vending machines, tables or display cabinets.
