But what if...

"Two things can be true at the same time. It just depends on your perspective."
Just the thing I needed to hear at just the right time. Thank you Sara Wachter-Boettcher for these wise words in the most recent Active Voice newsletter.
I did not know how desperately I needed the reminder that two things can be true at the same time. That we don't have to exist on only one side of a line at any given time. That life actually lives on two sides of any given thing at all times. How you see or experience it all depends on perspective.
Yet, what we often do to ourselves, as I have been doing lately, is engage in a mental ping-pong effect where we bounce back and forth between the two (or more!) things that we, in that moment, are certain are true. Instead of realizing we don't have to sit in either side and we can accept that both things can be true. We just have to decide what our perspective is going to be.
Making it fun, safe, and possible to do hard things at work.
9 个月"We can accept that both things are true." << So vitally important in a complex, nuanced world... and SO difficult! This is why I use #improv as a learning tool to help people embrace flexible thinking; when you practice "yes-anding" over and over again, you build up the "both things can be true at the same time" muscle and push past the initial cognitive dissonance that can bubble up. Great reminder, Gloria!
