What global leaders are concerned with in 2022

This edition of our newsletter focuses on Davos gatherings and the issues global leaders is concerned with in 2022 , as well as our 100 Women@ Davos community activities working to progress diversity in leadership

1. What is on the mind of world leaders in 2022?

Global Leadership

The World Economic Forum's virtual Davos?Agenda held last month, where heads of state and governments such Presidents of China, India, Israel, Japan, Indonesia, Australia, the German Chancellor and the Vice-President of Nigeria, joined leaders of influential institutions including the UN, ?US Treasury, and the ?European Union to discuss?critical challenges facing the world and to present their ideas on global matters such as combating COVID-19,?climate change, technology, and global trade and supply chain issues.

Following on from this, World Economic Forum has announced its Annual Meeting for May 22-26 in Davos with the theme of Working Together, Retaining Trust which will gather the world’s most influential leaders in person after a break of over two years.

US Corporate Leaders

Fortune hosted its annual meeting virtually, bringing together 100 CEOs with a collective revenue of $1 trillion. This powerful group included Pfizer, Amazon, General Motors, Facebook (COO) UPS, Bank of America, and Paypal with COVID-19 vaccine production and distribution, climate change and Big Tech regulation on the agenda as other pressing issues of inflation, supply chain disruption, the war for talent leading to increasing wages.

These convenings underscore the critical role of collaboration and collective action as a priority of leadership to address complex challenges the world faces.

2. Women of Davos

Alongside the Davos Agenda in January, 100 Women @ Davos participated in several key virtual and in-person Davos events:

The Female Quotient’s virtual Equality Lounge @Davos, with 15 women leaders including Ann Cairns, Executive Vice-Chair of Mastercard and Global Chair OF 30% Club; Beatrice Hamza Bassey, Chair Union Bank Nigeria PLC; Denelle Dixon, CEO Stellar Development Foundation; Dr. Marta Ra, Co-founder, Women in Sustainable Finance and Talimka Yordanova, CEO Global Citizen Forum

Perceptions of Leadership

Women and men make successful leaders, yet studies like the annual Reykjavík Index for Leadership, now in its fourth year, find that despite widespread global movements calling for greater equality, society is still not wholly comfortable with women in the most senior positions. And these attitudes contribute to barriers to women’s progression.

We collaborated with Female Quotient and Women Political Leaders at a live session to provide ideas on how to raise awareness and overcome societal prejudices?with Anita Bhatia, Assistant Secretary-General United Nations, and Deputy Director, UN Women; Dr. Michelle Harrison CEO, Kantar Public; Shelley Zalis Founder CEO, The Female Quotient; Silvana Koch-Mehrin, President, Women Political Leaders (WPL)

We are on the cusp of disruptive change where emerging technologies of today are rapidly becoming mainstream, impacting our lives, creating value and wealth, and powering economic development. From AI and the Metaverse, to blockchain and crypto, NFTs as well as DeFi, Web3 and more, these innovations are bringing exciting new possibilities.

Yet women are notably underrepresented in the technology sector and particularly at the leadership level, lacking access to funding and support for their entrepreneurial ventures. The conversation with CEOs and leaders from the tech sector and the entrepreneurship ecosystem during Digital.Davos.2022 centered around the challenges and solutions to speeding up diversity and inclusion in technology and leadership.
