What Getting Fat Taught me About Business, LinkedIn, and Life

What Getting Fat Taught me About Business, LinkedIn, and Life

I got married in 2019, the first day of it actually.

And my entire lifestyle changed- what I ate, how it was cooked, when I called it a day, etc.

It's not uncommon for women to gain some weight after they get married (here in India)- well, you also get invited to all these delicious dinners right after, so there's that.

I gained 12 kgs in just one year.

And here's what followed- I didn't feel good in my body.

Almost suddenly, all weight-loss programs and trainers and coaches spoke to me.

? Feeling lethargic?

? Don't feel great in your body?

? Can't compliment yourself?

? Can't take a compliment?

Even everyone around me had now started warning me about the weight gain and how I wouldn't want it to get worse.

Now, I had never been chubby my entire life.

So, now my weight and chubbiness and lethargy were making my life miserable. I didn't appreciate myself and the way I looked- at all.

Not passing judgment on anyone who struggles with weight gain, just reporting how I felt.

So I decided to do something about it.

At first, I was inconsistent, I did yoga one day, followed a 5-mile at-home walking video the next day, joined another yoga class for a month, the next day.

But I didn't make any of these practices consistent and so the results weren't great.

Plus, I was losing patience now. Getting more tired of myself, blaming the circumstances, and spoiling my relationship with food.

When I absolutely hit the rock bottom of my self-image, I decided.

It was a relatively laid-back evening and I was journaling and this is what I wrote- 'Why can't I do something consistently to lose weight and maintain my health?'

And I just stopped right there...

Why can't I?

And, just like that, that day, I decided. I will practice Yoga every day even if it's for 10 minutes.

I hopped on Google and started searching for Yoga apps and found a really awesome one- Yogaia. I highly recommend it and still use it.

The app has quite a few yoga teachers and several different classes to choose from. Every day, you can choose what form of Yoga you want to practice. They have LIVE sessions which are recorded.

I'm now in much better shape. In fact, I feel much better physically. I have more energy and I don't feel sluggish.

But how does this story relate to business or life or LinkedIn?

CONSISTENCY.

No matter what change you want to bring into your life, you need to be consistent.
Which is, honestly, what makes all of it hard.

?? Want to build a business? There are a lot of things you will need to do consistently.

?? Want to get more leads from LinkedIn? There are a lot of things you will need to do consistently.

?? Want to lose weight?

?? Want to build a lasting relationship?

And how do you build more consistency? By deciding.

This is who I am now. This is what I do.

And it dismantles a part of who you believe you are. Like you have to shed some skin and grow new skin.

Every day, I practice Yoga, breathing exercises, and meditation, no matter for how long.

Because you don't get a great life, athletic body, successful business by working at something for 24 hours straight.

You get it by practicing something for 10 minutes daily.

It's the daily that counts. Now, some days I only practice Yoga for 5 minutes (yes, there are 5-minute sessions in Yogaia), but I don't make excuses.

The reward is in the daily.

It's just that. Consistency. No matter what you want to do better or more of.
