Welcome to this week’s post on “Thoughtful Thursdays!”
A very Happy Teacher's Day to the teacher in each one of us who is willing to listen, learn, experiment, experience and share for constant learning and growth!
The topic that we are discussing these days is “Self-Discipline – A Miracle or A Practice !!!!”
This Week’s Question is a continuation of what we started discussing last week:
Question – I want to stay disciplined and focussed to continuously work towards my goals, however most often I get distracted, lose my focus, my enthusiasm and get derailed. What’s happening?
Answer – We discussed last week that our “Beliefs and Past Patterns” are an important contributor to the stories we tell ourselves that can either empower us or disempower us.
I so often hear people saying, “Now I understand, I am not very disciplined, and hence never meet any goals that I set for myself, I have kind of gotten used to it Now!”
So, lack of discipline is often taken as an excuse to justify the current state rather than working towards fixing the problem.
Isn't that scary, where the insights that we have, actually become excuses for not progressing forward!
Let’s look at a couple of other reasons of why after an enthusiastic start, we fall short of reaching our goals, and very conveniently blame it on lack of “Discipline”.
1. No Pressing Need - In many cases, there is no pressing need to be self-disciplined. You are leading an OK Life, and the sky is not falling. You are getting your salary, you can pay your bills, your health is ok, and things appear to be fine. In these situations when the current life looks decent enough, the need to get self-discipline takes a backseat.
2. Path of Least Resistance - As human beings, we are wired to stay comfortable and choose what comes naturally. "Doing it tomorrow" looks to be a better option than "working hard to finish it today". "Doing what is needed to please the other person" looks to be a better option than "working hard to give it your best shot". "Procrastination" looks to be a better option than being "Disciplined". Choosing the path of least resistance is always easy and comfortable. Self-Discipline, on the other hand, is SIMPLE but not easy.
Remember - Self-Awareness is the first step to any desired change in one’s life!
I hope with this information that I have shared, you are able to figure out
- What’s stopping you from getting self-disciplined
- What's stopping you from going out there and achieving your goals NO MATTER WHAT!
Keep moving forward, wishing you success in all your endeavours!

5 年In my view, self discipline has got nothing to do with being within comfort zone or away. It is a set of best practices that helps individual to manage time, stress, people, environment, situation etc so that he / she will be viewed as a successful person.?
