What gets 155,000 Linkedin Views
I sometimes look at my stats on Linkedin. I was trying to figure out what resonates with people. What do they read. Although I am not positive a view means a read. I do know more views mean more actual reads though because the comments and likes are always higher when there are more views.
Most of my posts get 2,000 to 3,000 views. Most of my posts are quotations from other people (it seems less arrogant than quoting myself).
Some quotes get more views:
"Most people never pick up the phone, most people never ask. And that’s what separates the people that do things from the people that just dream about them. You gotta act. And you gotta be willing to fail." — Steve Job got almost 7,000
"Working hard for something we don't care about is called stressed; working hard for something we love is called passion." -Simon Sinek got 6500 views
It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things. – Leonardo da Vinci got 9778 views
I never repeat the same mistake twice - I usually have to repeat it 4 or 5 times just to make sure. got over 11,000 views
I have learned that reposting other people's content rarely gets more than a few hundred views. Still - this might be worth doing since it is so simple to do.
Posts that are semi-advertorial or self serving still get 2-3,000 views. I think this is because 80% of the time I am posting content only for the value of the reader.
Lately I have been posting a lot of articles on parcel theft because Danby has released our Parcel Guard mailbox. This one garnered 3200 views - thinking photos help.
The post that surprised me the most was the one of my motherinlaw in a news interview. First post only got 2400 views so I re-posted with what I thought was a better headline - live to be 104 and had another 1200 views. I would have thought everyone would be interested in that.

Awards seem to get high views. My EY Entrepreneur of the Year post got over 22,000 views and another time, 34,000. Ontario Business achievement awards got 11,000. Our Diversity award got over 14,000 views. These all surprised me. I did not think people would be that interested.
I rarely write articles on Linkedin. Articles take time to write and in the end, do not get many reads (at least for me). When I look at my article stats, I usually get only about 300 views. On some, I get as few as 200 and even the more read ones only get about 900 views.
My most read article - the Story of the Irrational Customer only has 958 views. My worst one - 8 Tips to using Video in Marketing only had 200 views.
In short, for me, there is very little return on article writing (if you measure return by views)
And now the sad surprise. The one posting I did that got over 115,000 views was one I almost did not do. I posted about the passing of my mother here. I said "I almost did not post here. I know Linkedin is mostly business but many of my friends are business connections. We are complete people. My mom died this morning." and did a link to my blog.

5 年In all the things I have written over the years, what got the most responses was when I wrote about myself. When I opened the curtain a wee bit, and opened my heart, those were the times that people would stop me in the neighbourhood to thank me. The post about your Mom was one of those. Hope you're well.

5 年Thanks for sharing Jim Estill. I've often wondered what sorts of posts get the most views. Sadly it's not always the positive messages.
