What is "GETGo!"

What is "GETGo!"

In leadership and decision-making, striking the right balance between thorough preparation and timely action can be a real challenge. This is especially true for those of us with a mix of DiSC styles—like myself, where my C style urges me to perfect every detail before moving forward, while my D style pushes me to act swiftly and decisively. To navigate this tension, I’ve adopted a concept I heard about called the "GetGo" philosophy, which stands for:

"Good Enough to Go."

What is the "GetGo" Philosophy?

"Good Enough to Go" is a philosophy I’ve adopted to reconcile the competing demands of my C and D DiSC styles. "GetGo" is about knowing when something is sufficiently prepared to move forward—not perfect, but good enough to achieve the desired outcome without unnecessary delay. It’s about getting things done without falling into the trap of over-preparing or second-guessing.

The Origins of "GetGo"

The "GetGo" philosophy came about from my experiences in leadership, where I often found myself caught between the need to ensure everything was flawless (a hallmark of my C style) and the drive to push forward and make things happen (driven by my D style). Over time, I realized that aiming for perfection often led to delays and missed opportunities, while acting too quickly sometimes resulted in avoidable mistakes. "GetGo" became my way of finding a balance—a practical approach allowing for progress while maintaining quality.

Applying "GetGo" in Practice

"GetGo" is about setting a high standard to ensure quality but realistic enough to keep things moving. It’s the point at which I can confidently say, "This is good enough to achieve our goals," and then move forward.

For example, when launching a new project or initiative, I use "GetGo" to determine when the preparation phase is complete. The C style in me would prefer to triple-check every detail, but the D style recognizes the need for momentum. By applying "GetGo," I set clear criteria for what constitutes "good enough," allowing me to act decisively without compromising essential quality.

The Good and the Bad: Using "GetGo" Wisely

When applied correctly, the "GetGo" philosophy ensures you are not paralyzed by the pursuit of perfection or rushing ahead with incomplete work. It allows you to maintain a steady pace, making progress while delivering work that meets the necessary standards.

However, the philosophy comes with caution. Poor application of "GetGo" can lead to settling for mediocrity or glossing over important details. Understanding that "Good Enough to Go" doesn’t mean cutting corners; it means recognizing when further refinement won’t significantly improve the outcome and knowing when it’s time to move forward. Read that again, as this is a critical component of GetGo.

Balancing My CD DiSC Style with "GetGo"

The most significant benefit of "GetGo" is how it helps me balance the inherent tension between my C and D DiSC styles. The C style’s "Ready, Aim, Aim, Aim, let me check again, one more Aim, now Fire (maybe)" approach is invaluable for ensuring accuracy and thoroughness but can also lead to inaction. On the other hand, the D style’s "Ready, Fire, Aim" mentality drives quick results but can sometimes overlook crucial details.

"GetGo" creates a middle ground, enabling me to prepare adequately and confidently to take action. It’s not about perfection or haste but about knowing when something is good enough to achieve the desired result. This philosophy has become a cornerstone of my approach to leadership and decision-making, allowing me to navigate the challenges of both styles effectively.

The "GetGo" philosophy is a practical mindset that helps balance preparation with action, ensuring that your work is timely and of sufficient quality. Whether you tend to overthink or move too quickly, "GetGo" offers a way to find that sweet spot where you can confidently move forward without compromising on what matters. It’s been a transformative approach for me, helping me honor my C and D styles and achieve the best possible outcomes without getting bogged down in perfectionism or rushing ahead unprepared.

Call to Action: If you’re struggling to find the right balance between getting things done and getting them done right, consider adopting the "GetGo" philosophy. Embrace the idea that "Good Enough to Go" can be your guide to making progress without sacrificing quality. Start applying "GetGo" today and discover how it can enhance leadership and productivity.
