What Generative AI means for Future of Work

If you thought the impact of Cloud Computing was big.. Wait for Generative AI to take hold..

Cloud computing reduced the cost of executing ideas significantly. Before cloud, if you wanted to build something you would have to buy servers, hire IT folks to maintain those servers. It added significant barrier to entry. But with cloud, you could just rent the infrastructure - compute, storage etc. and get to building..

Generative AI is set to take this 10x further.

Let's see how -

• Want a logo? No need to hire a graphic designer anymore. Just give a prompt and AI can generate a logo for you. Try - Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Dalle-2
• Want to create a copy for the landing page? No need to hire a copywriter.. Have AI write it for you. Try jasper.ai, copy.ai, ChatGPT
• Want to write code for the landing page using HTML/CSS/JavaScript.. No need to hire a web developer.. Open AI Codex can write code in 10 languages.. You can try this in ChatGPT as well.
• Want to write blogs/content to promote your new landing page. Again, no need to hire content creators, AI will do this for you with a few prompts. New AI-powered text editors e.g. lex.page, orchard.ink etc can help you. Ofcourse, chat.gpt works here as well.

We can go on and on.. but I think you get the idea.. Generative AI is set to disrupt every job out there. What cloud did for infrastructure, AI is on track to that for every other aspect.

What does this mean for you?

AI gives you superpowers.. You can do more, achieve more with fewer people.. This has huge implications on #FutureOfWork, but those implications are more for companies, and not so much for people..

I think companies in future won't need lots and lots of employees. You will see fewer and fewer companies with tens of thousands of employees. But with the cost of starting up and executing ideas coming down significantly, you will also see more and more companies getting formed. More and more problems getting solved. More and more niches being explored.

So, should you be scared of AI? Definitely not. Make it your buddy and see what it can do for you, and there's a lot it can do already.?
