What Generative AI Means For The Future Of Everything
The AI revolution isn't on the horizon, it's already here.
The technology that will turn industries on their heads is being developed and in use across every corner of the globe. To many, this may seem like a frightening idea. People are worried that artificial intelligence will replace humans and leave them out of a job.
But that's not quite how things are shaking out.
At Channel, we believe AI-powered technology isn't going to replace humans. Instead, it will enhance our existing strengths and push us to breakthroughs and ideas we never thought possible.
Before predicting how things are going to play out, we first need to understand the difference between the AI you've been hearing about over the past decade, and the Generative AI that has recently become Silicon Valley's star child, receiving praise from the likes of Reid Hoffman and Sequioa.
So, what is AI?
The AI (Artificial Intelligence) you've typically heard about is an umbrella term for various computer systems that can perform tasks that normally required human intelligence. AI systems can solve problems, process data, and generate insights autonomously. Examples of AI applications include facial recognition, natural language processing, voice recognition, and machine learning.
Machine learning is used to recognize, analyze, and improve on existing patterns to better understand data that would be insurmountable at a human's pace.
You've probably already experienced machine learning without even knowing it. Take Watson, IBM's AI technology, launched in 2010. One of Watson's most prominent applications, as seen across multiple commercials, was its focus on studying driving patterns to optimize traffic lights and crossing signals. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Watson can also analyze any type of writing or statistical reports to determine patterns and discover insights exponentially faster than even the brightest minds.
Generative AI (also known as Generative Adversarial Networks) is a type of AI system that can generate new data from existing data and in response to user inputs. By learning the style and framework of existing data, it can produce new content in a similar style.
To see Generative AI in real-world action, look no further than the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which has shaped up to be the most heavily surveilled tournament in history. With 15,000 facial recognition cameras installed across the eight stadiums, fans attending the games are understandably worried about the privacy implications.

To combat this mass surveillance through the use of facial recognition software, fans have turned to face paint and Generative AI.
Using the AI tool 'Midjourney,' fans inputted images of?Juggalo makeup?and asked the tool to recreate the patterns mixed with different national flags. These images were then fed into image recognition software which helped identify patterns that were undetectable by the software. Once the unrecognizable patterns were identified they were then fed back into Midjourney to create millions of other similar variations, creating millions of potential variations. A process that would've taken humans weeks or even months to carry out. After these tasks were completed, fans could get to adorning their faces with the colors of their national pride.
All while fooling facial recognition apps ?? ??
This is just one small example of the power of Generative AI to create new ideas from existing data inputs, and how it can be applied to real-world scenarios. Instead of viewing these new ideas with the fear they could replace what we already do, we believe these new tools and resources will help artists, scientists, writers, doctors, chefs, engineers, architects, musicians, and countless other professions push the boundaries of what we've already discovered.
Would you be surprised to discover that some parts of this article were created using Generative AI?
As content creation continues to dominate the marketing space, leveraging AI tools will help brands and businesses of all sizes create high-quality content at a larger volume than ever before. All while reducing the number of people and capital needed to deliver each idea.
At Channel, we believe putting the power of Generative AI in the hands of creators everywhere will help people deliver ideas they never had the time or skills to do before. From all types of artists to businesses such as your local mom-and-pop shop, and even Fortune 500 companies.
As new tools emerge, even the most technology-adverse individuals will find themselves inputting ideas and generating world-class results.
This is the true democratization of technology. Not social media, not the internet, but the ability for any person to use the most advanced tools possible without the traditional barriers of entry such as money or advanced technical aptitude.
The question is no longer whether all the different forms of AI will become a driving force in your industry. It's already happening. The question is: Will you be ready to leverage AI to take your company to the next level when the time comes?
