A corrugation printing machine, commonly known as a corrugated box printing machine or a Flexo printing machine for corrugated boxes, is used for printing graphics and text onto corrugated cardboard sheets or boxes. The major components of such a machine typically include:
1.Feeding Section:
This is where the corrugated cardboard sheets or boxes are fed into the machine for printing. It consists of mechanisms to ensure smooth and accurate feeding of the substrate.
2. Printing Units:
These units are responsible for applying ink to the corrugated cardboard. Each printing unit typically consists of a plate cylinder, an anilox roller for transferring ink, and a rubber or elastomer impression roller for transferring the ink from the anilox roller to the substrate. Modern machines may have multiple printing units to allow for multi-color printing.
3. Plate Cylinder:
The plate cylinder holds the printing plates, which have the image or design that needs to be printed. These plates are usually made of rubber or polymer materials and are custom-made for each print job.
4. Anilox Roller:
The anilox roller is covered with a pattern of tiny cells that hold and transfer a controlled amount of ink to the printing plates. The cell pattern and density determine the amount of ink transferred to the substrate, affecting print quality and consistency.
5. Impression Roller:
The impression roller is responsible for transferring the ink from the printing plate to the corrugated cardboard. It applies even pressure to ensure consistent printing results.
6. Drying Section:
After the ink is applied to the substrate, it needs to be dried before further processing. Drying can be achieved using various methods, such as hot air or infrared drying systems.
7. Die-Cutting Unit:
In some corrugated box printing machines, there might be an integrated die-cutting unit. This unit cuts out the printed and corrugated sheets into the desired box shapes. It's particularly useful for inline production where printing and cutting happen in one continuous process.

8. Stacking and Collecting Section:
After the printing and any subsequent processing steps (such as die-cutting), the printed corrugated sheets or boxes are collected and stacked for further packaging and distribution.
9. Control Panel:
The machine is controlled through a central control panel where operators can set various parameters such as printing speed, ink flow, drying temperature, and more. Modern machines might even have digital interfaces for easier control and monitoring.
10. Ink and Color Management System:
This includes ink reservoirs, ink supply systems, and color management tools to ensure consistent and accurate color reproduction across print runs.
11. Tension Control System:
Corrugated materials can be sensitive to tension variations, which might lead to print misalignment or other issues. A tension control system ensures proper substrate tension throughout the printing process.
These components work together to feed, print, dry, and process corrugated cardboard sheets or boxes, resulting in high-quality printed packaging materials. It's important to note that the specific design and features of a corrugation printing machine can vary based on the manufacturer, the machine's capacity, and the intended application.
