What is FTTN? Introduction to the differences between FTTN and FTTH

What is fttn?

Fttn, fiber to the node. Fttn refers to the optical fiber extending to the place where the cable junction box is located, generally covering 200 ~ 300 users. Fttn can adopt PON access technology.

The difference between fttn and FTTH:

FTTB is optical fiber connected to the building, and small DSLAM equipment is placed on the junction box, generally covering 20 ~ 30 users; As the final form of FTTx, FTTH is the direct connection of optical fiber to each user's home.

Generally speaking, the industry regards FTTB and FTTH as the same category, which is generally called FTTH. This is because for operators, both of them need to lay a huge optical fiber distribution network (ODN) technically, and the ODN construction scheme is similar; Strategically, they all focus on providing the bandwidth capacity needed for development in the next 5 to 10 years, such as 30 to 50Mbps / user bandwidth. It can be said that FTTB is the early form of FTTH.

Compared with fttn, FTTH has higher construction cost and more complex network coverage. Its user bandwidth needs to be well guaranteed, so it has certain advantages in the construction of high-end user communities. Fttn access technology can effectively reduce the cost of optical fiber access. It has convenient operation and maintenance, and comprehensive business functions. It is currently an ideal technical solution for new ordinary residential communities.

For operators who choose fttb/h, the general view is to build FTTH in new areas, because the price of raw material copper is rising and the price of optical cable is falling, and the laying cost of optical cable and copper cable is equal, especially in new houses, there is no risk that existing users are unwilling to re lay cables; For users who have laid copper cables, FTTB mode is adopted to avoid the problem of re laying optical fibers in their homes. Obviously, FTTH investment is huge. Fttn is a compromise between bandwidth and investment. On the premise of meeting the bandwidth needs of users, fttn adopts the latest DSL technology and tries to use long twisted pair to improve the user capacity of DSLAM nodes, so as to reduce the number of nodes and reduce investment and maintenance costs.
