WHAT the F**K is GDPR?!?

Firstly, I apologise if you don't like swearing

I am no angel but I don't like it either!

In the headline above and the video below, I am repeating what was said to me recently when discussing the impact of the new data regulations that are going to effect every UK business in May 2018.

For the record, I have bleeped out the word in the video and obviously inferred it in the headline...

But that's just for those who are not living in the 21st century where profanity is EVERYWHERE!!!!

I jest!

But anyway...

I posted on my Linkedin profile earlier this week regarding a campaign we are running called WTF is GDPR where we will test a live, B2B sales prospecting campaign, within GDPR regulations for a few reasons...

Firstly, there is a lot of hot air being spouted about GDPR.

There are instant "experts" appearing all over social media.

Now... some of these people (some of which I KNOW are genuine!) do really know there stuff.

Others... well... I will leave that to you to debate!!

But here's the thing.

Many are talking about the DEATH of Sales Prospecting and how we will ONLY have to rely on inbound marketing!

Of course... the guys banging this drum are the Inbound Marketing Platforms, agencies and associated specialists who help clients with traffic generation and inbound leads.

And why wouldn't they.. we would all make hay right?!

But...

- Do you REALLY want to rely on all of your sales and demand generation activities on inbound enquiries?

- Do you REALLY want your sales team sitting there waiting for the phone to ring and for clients to break your door down to give you their business?

No?

Thought not ;-)

Me neither!

And neither do our clients.

I am not saying Inbound should be ignored... far from it.

Without doubt you should be investing time and money (same thing right?!) into creating content (like this!!), spreading your message and being Omnipresent across every relevant platform to ensure your clients and prospects build a relationship with you.

But...

Many people also want to be in control of their own destiny and still be able to target prospects who fit their IDEAL CUSTOMER PROFILE and start conversations with those people!

The problem is...

Business owners, entrepreneurs, Sales Directors, Sales Teams and Marketers...

...are SCARED!

Scared that they will break the law and be fined a squillion pounds if they accidentally contact a prospect without that person writing to them in gold leaf a thousand times giving them PERMISSION to very quietly, softly and gently....

...Try and SELL something to them ;-)

Now of course I am being a little bit tongue in cheek here.

But you get my point right?

We all still need to SELL our bloody stuff!!!

We still want to hit targets, grow our client base, add VALUE to people who can really benefit from the products and services we provide and ultimately, make ALL THE MONEY!!!

To do that, sales people need to sell.

So.

My team and I at Marketing Republic, made the decision to run this test, after the WTF is GDPR conversation as we feel there is genuine confusion in the market place.

I thought there would be interest but we have had over 4,000 views in 48 hours!

And... a large proportion are sales... in fact 1316 of them from when I took this screenshot have the title "Salesperson".

To me that shows the relevancy this subject matter has to people it is going to effect the most...

But here's the point.

Sales is the oxygen that our businesses need to live!

If sales people are effected... our businesses could be too!

However, we all want to do it the RIGHT way!

So... we are running a LIVE B2B Sales Prospecting Campaign where we will publish ALL the results and how we achieved them in January 2018.

Despite the concerns and uncertainty about GDPR... Brexit etc etc (yawn!) I still think 2018 is going to be a great year...
