What are the fire resistance rating and combustion performance standards for aluminum veneer?

Aluminum veneer, as a new type of metal curtain wall decoration material, is highly praised and sought after in the market, with one important reason being its excellent lightning protection and fire resistance. So, do you know what the fire resistance rating and combustion performance standards are?

I. Classification Standards for Fire Resistance Rating and Combustion Performance of Building Decoration Materials:

1. Building decoration materials are classified into six levels based on their fire resistance rating:

A Level: Non-combustible building materials, which hardly burn.

A1 Level: Non-combustible, no flaming.

A2 Level: Non-combustible, slight smoke production.

B1 Level: Materials have flame-retardant properties, difficult to ignite when exposed to open flames or high temperatures, and stop burning immediately after the fire source is removed.

B2 Level: Combustible building materials with some flame-retardant properties. They will immediately ignite and burn when exposed to open flames or high temperatures in the air, leading to the spread of fire, such as wooden pillars, wooden frames, wooden beams, wooden stairs, etc.

B3 Level: Highly flammable building materials with no flame-retardant effect, extremely prone to burning, posing a high fire hazard.

2. Building decoration materials are classified into four levels based on their combustion performance:

A: Non-combustible.

B1: Flame-retardant.

B2: Combustible.

B3: Highly flammable.

II. What is the fire resistance rating of aluminum veneer?

According to the technical personnel of Houshiao Building Materials, the fire resistance rating of aluminum veneer is A2 level. Decorative aluminum veneer is made of high-strength aluminum alloy sheets, with commonly used models being 1100 and 3003. Among them, 1100 is industrial pure aluminum with a content of up to 99.9%, while 3003 aluminum-manganese alloy plate is composed of 97% metallic aluminum and 3% metallic manganese elements. The melting point of aluminum is 660.4°C, while the added manganese metal has a melting point as high as 1245°C, greatly enhancing the strength and fire resistance of the aluminum veneer.

Therefore, it can be seen that the fire resistance rating of aluminum veneer can reach A2 level due to the fact that the main raw material of aluminum veneer is metallic aluminum, which can meet the fire protection requirements of most buildings. In addition, some fireproof materials such as rock wool can be added to the back of the aluminum veneer to further enhance its fire resistance.
