What is Feedback? ??

What is Feedback? ??

Giving feedback means providing others with input. In this context, external perception is crucial. When giving feedback, you are sharing with others how their behavior is perceived, how you experience that person, or how you evaluate their performance. Essentially, it’s like holding up a mirror to someone—but this should be done in a positive and constructive manner.

Feedback can be extremely valuable when used correctly and when both the giver and receiver adhere to clear guidelines.

Giving Feedback in an Agile Environment ??

Here’s how feedback can be applied in an agile context, and how it’s implemented within my team:

Feedback focuses more on how things are done rather than directly on the results themselves. It’s more about the process—the how:

- How are certain things approached?

- How do team members attempt to solve problems?

- How do they achieve certain interim results?

- How do we work together?

- What common values do we share?

- How does communication occur between us?

Thus, when giving and receiving feedback, the focus is on the system and processes themselves, rather than solely on the outcomes. This is incredibly important because it leads to people improving both the results and the pathways to achieve those results in the future—essentially, helping them to help themselves.

At this moment, one shifts from FeedBACK to FeedFORWARD.

We look forward instead of dwelling too much on past results. It’s as if we’re fast-forwarding: How do we want to collectively progress to the next and subsequent iterations and outcomes?

?? Final Takeaways

As often happens in life, sometimes it’s necessary to start with oneself. For each of us, the illusion of transparency applies—meaning the discrepancy between our self-perception and how we are perceived by others.
