What does Father’s Day mean to you? For me, today means being thankful for my father who has always believed in me. I will always cherish being by his side growing up. I firmly believe my work ethic today is because of his influence. It also means being thankful for my father-in-law, who has provided the example of what it means to raise daughters. I have also been blessed to have several fatherly influences in my personal and professional life that I am thankful for today. Finally, today I am thankful for Archie, Loreana, and Faith. These three kids have provided me the most joy of my life and make be proud to be called daddy.
A while back, I had a light bulb moment and realized that it is up to me to ensure I am the influence my kids need me to be. I remember reading the article Dr. Meg shares the three most common beliefs all children have about their fathers by practicing pediatrician and author Dr. Meg Meeker, MD. In her article she shares three thoughts including You are the center of their world, You can make time stand still, and You are the hero of their story. This article reminded me of how important my role is and lead me to make some changes in my life. I encourage you to take a couple of minutes to read it.
I understand my perspective on Father’s Day is probably different than yours, but I hope no matter what today means to you that you can find joy. I would love to hear what Father’s Day means to you. Share your thoughts in the comments and have a great day!
