What Experiences Are You Missing?

What Experiences Are You Missing?

It's natural to avoid something that causes you anxiety. Here are some ways in which fear of speaking can be self-limiting:

  • I need to promote my business, but then I'll have to speak on video/host a webinar
  • I want to go to grad school but this will require me to teach and I'll have to speak in front of a class
  • I've been asked to guest on a podcast but...
  • I'd like to get a new job but then I'll have to go through several rounds of interviews in front of a panel or do a virtual interview
  • I've received a promotion which requires me to be more visible: I'm tied in knots about this opportunity...
  • I have a mission in the world that will require speaking in front of groups to spread the word...
  • I'd like to run for office, but I have a stammer

And the list goes on! Many wonderful opportunities will require you to show up more fully in your voice. What's holding you back? Think about it for a moment. What are you most afraid of? What would it take to move past this?

I have a client who recently spoke in front of a group she'd presented to many times. This was her first time presenting in person since working with me. One member said to her, "Wow that was great, I didn't realise you were a public speaker!" Other members said that they saw a huge difference in her confidence and presence. Most wonderfully, she said to me, "I've been thinking about speaking in a wider arena. I actually feel excited about doing this now." It was such a pleasure to see her growth. While I felt very happy that my coaching helped her to this point, ultimately the triumph is hers.

Did you know that the same tools that support you in speaking change how you feel about these high stakes events, physically, mentally and emotionally? You can browse The Speakeasy Extra archives if you'd like to read about this in depth.

People often put off working on these skills. But when they finally dive in, they say to themselves, "I should have done this sooner! This is so empowering." Breaking challenges into bite sized pieces or small continuous steps can help to break the seal on your success.

I am offering a live 45-minute class for exactly this purpose: Tune Up Your Speaking Impact: 5 Transformative Tools on Friday, April 26th at 12pm PDT.
