Manufacturing organisations today are at various level of maturity when it comes to application landscape, specially when it comes to the MOM ( Manufacturing Operations Management ) stack.
When I meet with customers, they have one question in common with respect to Industry 4.0 implementation. For many, ERP could do everything they want to do by integrating with different applications, for some ERP+MES is the one they think are enough, few thinks ERP+MES+Analytics are just enough for their purpose, little thinks there is a need of specialised Industry 4.0 application ( read platform ) which will solve their current and future challenges with manufacturing.
Below is a short summary and my guide to what to expect under various manufacturing application landscape scenarios when it comes to solving the challenges with manufacturing across 5 fundamental dimensions of manufacturing - the man, the machines, materials, methods and energy.
Again, this is not an exhaustive list but my short guide to answering the eternal question "what value industry 4.0 apps and platform can add on top of my existing manufacturing apps"
