What to expect while hiring RPA positions ?

Last year, we decided to ride another wave of automation in core retail functions like Fashion Buying, Merchandise Planning and Supply Chain. This meant beefing up the team. I interviewed nearly 100 candidates for different roles in our RPA CoE over few months. Onboarding the right team takes patience and effort. The current climate in the RPA market makes it further exasperating. If you are looking to add members to your RPA CoE, here are my top five on what you can expect from my experience.??
Many of our job postings got a zillion responses, many of which were irrelevant including Chefs and Security Personals. There were a few hardware automation folks too. Once you filter out these obvious ones, you can still expect a million shortlisted candidates !!
1) Expect Four Skills: Any RPA CoE needs people with four skills.?
a. Problem Identification: Review a process and identify opportunities and quantifiable benefits
b.?Solution Design: A good solution that makes the life of the user as easy as possible has a greater chance of success. aka. RPA Architect.
c.?Bot Code Development: Developers with experience in the right RPA platform is a must to deliver even a single bot that works. This includes testing also.

d.?Project Management: ROI is what everyone is after. A good PM makes sure that the project is delivered to the full scope and on time.??
2)?Expect skill overlaps: Most of the seasoned RPA resources have been through a phase where they were the only member of the team. So, expect people to have a primary skill and experience in several. The most frequent of such overlaps are, by far, developers who have made opportunity identification and solution design.
3) Expect career shifts: Many folks in the RPA community want to change their primary role. Most wanted to move from a developer to a consultant role. They find the glamour of ‘client facing’ more appealing than the company of a laptop monitor. On the other hand, a few wanted to move into coding as they find building something more fascinating.
4)?Expect wolfs in sheep’s clothing: As the RPA jobs have steadily climbed up to the top bracket in salaries, several Java/.net developers apply for these positions. I believe that they don’t realize their true potential and are blindly chasing a higher paycheque. Many of them are excellent candidates but would take a few weeks to get into the grove of developing for a process rather than a BRD!?
5) Expect to set Expectations: Although it is a general best practice, making sure that the candidate understands the expectations of the position is crucial during interviews for RPA roles. Being a relatively new industry, the role titles for RPA folks vary a lot across organizations. Candidates can get genuinely confused and end up applying for the wrong position. Discussing the role during the interview avoids terrible surprises in the future.

2 年It is said that Recruiters have the most difficult job in the world these days..... only rockstars thrive. Filtering thru junk as part of automated search is part of the job.
