What to Expect at a Job Interview with HeroCoders?
HeroCoders
??Hi, welcome to HeroCoders, Atlassian Platinum Marketplace Partner. We build tools that take the hassle out of work.
Job interviews can be tricky. At their best, they help both the hiring organization and the interviewees find the right fit. At their worst, they provide little or no useful information to the parties on either side.
To ensure the process is useful for everyone involved and to give you an idea of what to expect, we asked HeroCoders Hiring Manager, Maria Wojtalik , to answer a few questions about HeroCoder’s interview process.
How many times do you typically meet with a candidate before hiring them?
We care about your time. We prepare each recruitment process to run smoothly and to include the minimum number of meetings necessary to get to know each other, verify that we are compatible, and ensure the proper skills match.
The number of meetings this takes depends on the role, but is usually two for non-development roles, and three or four when we are hiring a new developer. The initial “handshake” meeting is for getting to know each other. We talk about the company, and ask general questions to get to know your point of view and your approach to problem solving. It is also the time for candidates to ask questions. At the end of the handshake meeting we’ll tell you what the next stage looks like and what you need to prepare. You will be contacted with the result, usually within 72 hours.
The next meeting requires preparation. We will send you a task/question to respond to and sufficient time to prepare your answer. You will also have an opportunity to present your knowledge and your vision of what you could bring to HeroCoders.
Applicants for development positions may be asked to attend a third interview in which they demonstrate their coding ability.
Who will be involved in the interview process? Will the interview be one-on-one or a panel?
Typically the process involves three individuals from the following divisions; one person from management, another from your future team, and our hiring coordinator. The interview is run by a panel and candidates have the opportunity to discuss and ask any questions.
What qualities are you looking for (personality, skills, values, etc.)?
We are a small team working remotely from around the world, and we are looking for people who will complement us. This style of work requires individuals who are motivated, independent, and not afraid to ask questions. English is our common language, so fluency is required. Leadership skills are important, as well as technical and analytical skills that will allow you to support our tools, which are used by thousands of companies around the world.

Will candidates be provided with the interview questions in advance?
When you apply for a position with HeroCoders, you will be asked to send answers to a few questions. These questions indicate the areas of interest that will be explored during the interview(s). The specific interview questions are not provided in advance.
What kinds of questions (situational, behavioral, cultural fit, etc.) will be asked?
We use a variety of open-ended questions aimed at providing context and insight into your work. We want to understand why you would like to work for us, what your priorities are, and how you would complement our existing team. There is no one “correct” answer. Instead, we start a conversation and seek a discussion that will allow us to better understand how you would approach your job, what kind of team member you would be, and what your favorite way of working is.
What skills will be tested? How will you measure success?
Soft skills are important in our environment because we all work remotely. Along with good English language skills (all meetings are in English), we pay attention to trustworthiness, reliability, consistency, and friendliness because we value good relations with our team.
Additional skills depend on the specific position you are applying for. You may be asked to demonstrate familiarity with our markets, our tech stack, etc.
How will objectivity be ensured? How will candidates be measured and compared? Will candidate responses be scored on a rating scale?
Each recruitment is designed to find a person who meets our needs and whose expectations we are able to meet. Before opening interviews, we prepare the interview questions, as well as a list of the approaches we are looking for, and red flags that would indicate a candidate is not a good fit. Each candidate is assessed on an internal evaluation scale prepared for the specific recruitment. All candidates are individually assessed for overall impressions and responses to the interview questions.
What can candidates expect after the interview? How soon will they hear back? Will they be contacted either way?
We let candidates know of our decision, typically within 72 hours after each interview.
