1. Power Query
If you or members of your team use Excel a lot then you are missing out massively if you don't find out about Power Query.
The efficiency gains are staggering.
No more copy paste between Excel data dumps, no more hours cleaning up messy CSVs or applying complex VBA. Seriously, it's amazing.
2. Power Pivot
Handle Millions of VLOOKUP style relationships in seconds
Load 100's of millions of records into Excel
Add massively useful formula to Pivot Tables such as Year To Date v Full Year Budget. Actuals this year v Last Year, YoY Growth % etc

3. Last but by no means least.... the simple Table (Ctrl+T)
I still find only 20-30% of Excel users have used Tables . They are one of the 3 best things to happen to Excel in the last 20 years!

7 年I'm glad to know that I'm in that 20-30% of people. It is clear that Excel is underutilized. Discovering other people the potential of the tables is nothing compared to being the queen of the office because you know BUSCARV The enthusiasm continues to grow when you introduce VBA in the Excel books, and now Power Pivot arrives and I can make a COUNT DISTINCT in the tables !!!! I'm excited!!

7 年I tried the tables option today on a "table" I created yesterday and it saved me a lot of work. Now I want to try the power query and power pivot. I use pivot tables a lot so would be nice to be able to go to the next level.

7 年"... Excel's 3 best kept secrets" - kept from whom?? The three features Wyn has listed are just the tip of the iceberg for 80% of Excel users, who still don't know (or care to learn!) about Pivot Tables, Data Validation, Conditional Formatting, Defined Names, nesting functions (but not too many!), the xxxIFS functions, VBA, etc., whereas I expect most "advanced" users know about them but still have a long way to go before becoming proficient with this new functionality.

7 年Thanks for the post Wyn! I had the opportunity to sit through an Excel session by Bill Jelen (“MrExcel”) last week. He spent a good portion of the afternoon showing the power of PowerQuery, and makes it obvious how compelling a tool it is. #1 on your list for good reason!
