What exactly IS the scope?

As I was reminded when discussing budgets and the timelines, one of the issues with many projects is the overall scope has not been fully agreed, and so the budgets and timelines are only ever an estimate, impossible to manage and control. Are you frustrated when doing your best to work out the scope of the changes and agree them with all the key people in the business?

  • Is the thought of asking all the key people for their thoughts daunting?
  • Are you dreading having to deal with each head of department and their "differences"?
  • Do the support department heads need something different to the fee-earning department heads?
  • Does the increasingly flexible, virtual and varied locations of people make it harder to enforce consistent processes and systems across the business, let alone figuring out how to gather all their views in the first place?
