Met Gala

The Met Gala, run by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, is an annual fundraising event for the benefit of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City which is one of the biggest fashion events of the year.

It serves as a major fundraiser for the Costume Institute, with proceeds from ticket sales going towards the museum's exhibitions, acquisitions, and capital improvements. The event has raised over $200 millions of dollars over the years and has helped to support the museum's mission of preserving and promoting fashion and costume design as an art form.

History of the Met Gala

The Met Gala has gone from a small, intimate affair in 1948 attended by 50 guests to being known as the "Party of the Year" and attracted many high-profile guests from the worlds of fashion, art, and entertainment.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the Met Gala became even more glamorous and exclusive, with a guest list that was carefully curated by the event's organizers. The themes also became more elaborate, with designers and attendees creating increasingly extravagant costumes and outfits. In the early 2000s, the Met Gala became more closely tied to the fashion industry, with many designers and fashion icons serving as co-chairs and helping to shape the event's themes and direction.

The next theme for 2023 is Karl Lagerfeld: A line of Beauty which honours the Chanel Creative Director following his death in 2019.?
