What is everyone else doing?

What is everyone else doing?

This morning I read a post by Katherine Wildman about getting into the habit of reading more. The Guardian published an article this weekend about encouraging us to put down our phones and get into the habit of reading more books. This is not a problem for me!

Katherine shared a Stephen King quote (he doesn't seem to be on LinkedIn):

“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There's no way around these two things that I'm aware of, no shortcut.”

The same applies to any online business medium.

We now offer three key services to our B2B clients and I want to share my 'insider' tips on how you can do all of these three better:

LinkedIn Content Creation

Start looking around.

Who are your competitors? Or the companies in your space that may not be direct competition but are serving similar clients to you.

Are they getting good engagement on their LinkedIn content?*

Do you think you see them everywhere?

Does their content engage YOU?

Are their team also posting and commenting on LinkedIn?

*Quick watchout on this one - make sure the engagement is real, and not coming from a false engagement pod where everyone has to comment on each others posts through an automation tool - this is easy to spot once you know what it is.

What is it you like about their visibility on LinkedIn?

Maybe they are showing up on video. Are the team members spotlighted in posts or video?

Do they have LinkedIn livestreams? What can you learn from what they are doing - what seems to be working?

If they are publishing newsletters, subscribe to them and see what you like about the content.

I love reading and watching content from the people who serve similar clients to me. I quite often comment on it. Two reasons - my potential clients may see my comment and become aware of me, and more importantly, I want to be part of the conversation. A rising tide does indeed lift all boats!

Video Marketing - LinkedIn and YouTube

Like a lot of other people, I started a YouTube channel and did a tiny bit of research around what works for YouTube. What I forgot to do, and I will be honest, it took me about two years before I started paying attention to this, was WATCH videos on YouTube!

If you want to be a YouTuber, the easiest way to get started is to find the videos in your niche and watch them. What do they talk about? How does the video start? Do they edit a lot? How long are the most popular videos?

If the way to becoming a great writer is to read, then the way to be come great on video, is to watch.

Think YouTube is just for gaming? Think again!

Running a business is full on. When do you get time to do these things? I admit it is hard. I have to carve out the time. We went on holiday (vacation ???? friends) recently for ten days with our family. I checked in on my emails once a day. I did not keep up with what is new on LinkedIn. Turns out, a lot happens in ten days. I am still catching up.

If you want to grow on a platform though, learn what works on it.

LinkedIn are running faster with video now than most of us can keep up.

Thanks to Jerry Potter who is part of a community I am, I now know that LinkedIn recommend our videos are under two minutes. So a gearshift for me and my clients. Which we are ready for.

This is why you outsource to someone who is focused on the channel you want to be visible on. Our team ARE keeping up with the changes. The best practice. The gearshifts. So you don't have to.

YouTube shorts are changing too. Not that I ever had a lot of success with those. But I don't need to. I know that my core ideal client audience don't really watch shorts. We like to learn stuff. But we also like to learn the answer to the exact question we have. So no fluff. How do I know this? Because I watch and learn. And I can share all of that knowledge with our clients.

Podcasting

We recently added a capsule podcast offering to our services. It aligns so much with how I run my own online business and what I love doing, that I can't believe it took us so long. It also fits really well into our COPE methodology. Create Once, and Publish Everywhere.

I have been a huge fan of podcasts since 2016. Too many adverts stop me listening. Too much 'all about me' and I switch to the next episode. I love listening to experts being interviewed and I also love BEING interviewed by podcasters.

I have recently fallen down two rabbit holes with my podcast listening - back to an old fave, Amy Porterfield who just does it so well, and searching for some interviews with Robin Waite who I am working with through a programme and I simply wanted to hear more of his methods behind his business coaching.

With all of this content, SEO becomes really important. Even in the age of AI content. Keywords. Focused content. No fluff.

Look around and see who is delivering the sort of content you want to be known for. Read, watch, listen and learn.

The way we include podcasts for our clients is quite simple:

  • Record 6-8 episodes with video
  • Edit.
  • Use the transcript to create posts, show notes, YouTube descriptions and quotes.
  • Publish on a podcast platform
  • Publish on YouTube.
  • Create short clips to publish on LinkedIn (and elsewhere.. remember, create once and publish everywhere)

Keep that content and go back to it. The two videos I have embedded above, were not created for this newsletter. I can repurpose them multiple times. And I will.

Visit the link above to find out more about the Capsule Podcast Service

A capsule podcast gives you the content you want, without the commitment of having to create a weekly show. I am more than happy to chat you through how we can help you to create this. First though, I want you to listen to podcasts in your field. So you can see how they could help you get more clients.

Thanks Katherine for today's inspiration.

If you want to write, read.

If you want to be on video, watch.

If you want to have a podcast, listen.

If you want to work on your business and have someone else take all of this on for you, book your call here.

Louise Brogan, this is really good information. Also, there are a lot of tips, and each could likely be a series. I don't know how you have the time for it all, but I'm up for the challenge. Thank you for sharing, and I look forward to reading more of your content.
