What every owner needs to know about being focused... even if you have tried everything and failed.

What every owner needs to know about being focused... even if you have tried everything and failed.

Sitting at the screen I was frozen. I couldn't believe what I was feeling.

A rush of of adrenaline that eased my panic for a moment but then fear covered me and It felt like an invisible arm was moving me to open more tabs and search with furry for something to bring a new wave of dopamine to my brain.

You see I saw something that someone else was doing and believed, "this is it."

Then I set out to find out how they did it.

Only to find great anxiety, no more new ideas and tools and technology that left me with no outcomes.

15 years ago I was always thinking:

Where is the next client going to come from?

How will I pay the bills this month?

I am so bored.

I am not as disciplined as others I see.

I was moody. Popping off at people for no reason. I had a really hard time wanting to do the work. I literally thought, if the people would just come I can really help them.

I wanted consistent results. I wanted my business to deliver a pay check to me each month. I really wanted to help people and be paid to do that.

I would sit at my computer looking at the screen and all I could see was all of this stuff I had to do and getting overwhelmed.

I hadn't even done anything yet.

I would have these big bursts of energy and say to myself, "I'm finally going to take action on this". Then I would take off.

As soon as the action was done, I would see the results, rest on my success and reward myself by binging, not just eating binges. I would go on T V binges. I would go on binges for long periods of time without doing work on my business.

Then I would come back feeling shame and feeling guilt and the cycle just continued.

Until I didn't have a business to come back too.

I literally went on a quest to understand what makes successful people successful and what makes people that are not successful, not successful.

I studied these people like my life depended upon it.

Then I went and found people that looked like the successful people to help me be like them.

I found that there are two kinds of owners:

1. Restrictors

2. Hyper Responders

Stay with me because this understanding changed the direction of my entire life....

The restrictors showed up in two ways:

1. The restrictor lives in the past.

What do I mean by that? Well, they tend to replay things that were said to them by someone that was entangled in their own fear trap.

So maybe they were told as a kid, "I don't know why you're trying to do that because you're not ever going to be able to do it anyway."

Maybe it was a manager that never ever noticed what they did well, but focused on what they did wrong.

They replay these conversations and they take up residence in the space of, "this is all I will be".

When they re-enter the work environment there is a loss of interest, a loss of pleasure.

They no longer want to do this work. There might even be seasons of excessive fatigue. saying things like, "I'm just so sleepy". They don't feel like they can get enough sleep. There can be drastic weight loss or drastic weight gain.

2. The restrictor that lives in the future, they call themselves "control freaks".

They have never ending tasks and options. They always have something they've got to get to, and they never have enough time for anything.

They really are at the highest risk of losing it all because they cannot focus on the big picture because they're too busy hanging on to everything.

They tend to swing to the perfectionistic side of things.

These are the people that say, I can't get started until everything looks like the picture in my head.

So they're always talking about what they're going to do, but they very rarely take action.

They're the planners. Everything has to be in a row before they can actually get going.

Literally, this restrictor can't stop thinking.

What these two groups of restrictors don't realise is their own cycle of behaviour is limiting their power to work.

"Power (man-power) is organised knowledge expressed through intelligent effort."

When I read these words from Napoleon Hill I said, "YES"! Because I was a restrictor and was paralysed and couldn't take effort on what I knew to be true.

I was paralysed by a fear that told me things I believed.

The Hyper Responders these are the people that live in the present.

When thoughts about future outcomes surface they grab it and say, "I'll deal with that later" or "if it comes up...I'll deal with it then" or they say, "that's not true."

When thoughts or situations from the past surface to bring about shame, fear or guilt they grab it and remind themselves of what they have done and immediately that thought loses power.

Hyper responders are the people you see:

Getting what they want from life and their business.

They are the leaders empowering, transforming and impacting others.

They have confidence because they have learned to focus on facts and measurements and not on feelings and opinions.

These are 3 steps to moving from a Restrictor to a Hyper Responder TODAY:

1. Be honest with your self

“Ignorance and fear are twin sisters. They generally are found together.”

When it comes to your life, your chief aim in this life and your business do you have "a plan b?"

Is there work that you know will be of higher value to you and your clients but you keep putting it off?

Do you justify your in action with words like, "well maybe this isn't for me?" or "they are a great coach, trainer, ect, but that just doesn't work for me."

Answering these questions, honestly, will put you on a path to course correcting yourself.

Sometimes the training from those you've hired is incomplete. Have you asked questions, have you sought clarity, have you leaned in and expressed, respectfully, your frustration?

If not then you are choosing to show up as someone who says one thing, but does something else.

2. Take action NOW!

Write down exactly what you want in great detail.

Answer this question, "why am I motivated to achieve it?"

What is the biggest obstacle to achieving it?

Define if it is an imaginary hurdle or a concrete hurdle.

For example - Imaginary Hurdles – Thinking that nobody will pay you $2,000 for your advice or that you won't be able to deliver

Concrete Hurdles – Is a real obstacle. For instance. We had 100 people walk through the door in the last 3 days no one bought anything. Or I sent 1000 emails and only 10 peopled open and no one scheduled. Or I made 100 sales calls and no one bought.

This forces you to look at what is actually happening and get on the track to getting what you want today.

If you don't know how....ASK FOR HELP...

3. Accountability -

If you study successful men and women you will find a common theme:

They co-ordinated their knowledge and efforts with OTHER men and women that were in harmony with them and could help them get what they wanted.

You cannot build anything alone.

A great case study in the power of co-ordination, accountability and humility are the pioneers of great business themselves: Ford, Firestone and Edison.

Not one of them had capital, all had little schooling and did not come from established financial or professional families

It is well documented they were good friends and would go away often to the woods to rest and talk with each other.

What were they doing? Investing in each other by bringing each of their organized knowledge together, entering into harmony with each other and holding each other accountable.

All 3 died men of great POWER, WEALTH & EDUCATION

If you are to be an owner that can weather the storms, celebrate without stopping and be someone others can depend on then you should consider mastering your thoughts, directing your actions and learning self-control.
