What Every International Student Should Know About Writing Motivation Statements

As a writer that is always reviewing motivation/personal statements, I've learned that the best motivational and personal statements are unique and expressive.
Unique in the sense that humans have peculiar reasons that inspire their action. And expressive in the way it presents the prospective student.
Most personal statements don’t sound convincing because they lack that uniqueness and expressiveness, and this is probably because the student lacked ideas or didn’t know how to present themselves.
If you're having trouble expressing yourself, here's a proven model that will help you.
? First
Think of it like you’re introducing yourself to someone (think of just one person at this stage and because it’s probably one person that will review your application, so you need to focus your imagination on that person).
? Second
Assume that you’re introducing yourself to the person by answering these set of questions;
- Who are you
?- Why are you writing?
?- Why are you interested in the course?
?- What is your background (academic and career)?
?- What skills or qualities do you have that makes you suitable for your interest?
?- Why and how is this school and country going to help me achieve my goals?
?- What else should they know about you that would show that you’ll be an asset to the faculty and school?
Using these questions to model your statement helps your thought pattern. It doesn’t only help you know what to write, it equally helps your sop to have a good sequence.

? Third
Just allow your thoughts and don’t bother about grammar and punctuations and all… Just write without holding back.
? Fourth?
If you’re done answering the questions, you can then start afresh, and review what you’ve written. It’s at this point that you can focus on grammar, punctuation, flow, etc. You can add more information to areas that sound less detailed or convincing.
Once you’re done, you can use a tool like Grammarly like I do to proof your write up and you’re good to go.
Extra tip:?You could share the statement with one or two trusted people and ask for their thoughts on areas where they thing you should shed more light on.
Cheers!
