what every company should consider

it’s 7:09am on a thursday when im writing this and my body is preparing itself for a 14-meeting day today and to cap things off I think i’m a little under the weather per my whoop so YAYYYYYY. i have so many thoughts jumbled in my brain right now so imma try to get them down on ‘paper’ for you but a lot of it is around the importance of…
let’s break down my thoughts on the first bullet point. i have spoken with so many sales individuals as of late that are saying ‘cold calling just isn’t working anymore’ or ‘it’s hard to go out and get leads’. i started to see this shift during COVID at Vaco in 2020. one thing i give myself a pat on the back for is understanding people’s behaviors wayyyy earlier than most sales/marketing people do. even the people who gave me heck 4 years ago for ‘why am i putting out content what does it do’ are JUST NOW coming around to putting out content. the reason why i think every company or individual should be a media company is because folks don’t want to be sold to anymore. they just don’t. people are TIRED. TIRED I TELL YOU. also humans traditionally buy after 7 touch points. so after a call, an email, and maybe another call…how else are you going to reach someone that’s not creepy stalker vibes?? i probably saw this on tiktok but it was a CMO of a large company that said ‘gone are the days of make more calls for more sales, now we have to start putting out MORE content to get more sales’.
to tie this into what i am building at torc….i want to hire people who have a deep sense of community and know how to put out content to capture attention. i mean my dude jason torres put together a virtual tech conference and raised over $10k in donations for a buddys wife who has cancer. briana holmes who is on our team has deep ties to the tech community with renderatl, and i just offered a spot to a woman out of mexico who is incredibly involved and does all the live streams etc. people want to connect with people. not companies. and that is what i want to build here at torc.
okay so the second point (this email newsletter is already getting too long) which is around a community-first mindset. after you put out content for years, you will develop a following, a group of folks who become almost ‘superfans’ of your brand. how are you giving back to them? this is how you should view community. in the staffing/recruiting industry, we can only place around 10% of individuals in jobs so if we have 100 people join torc’s platform we MAY be able to place only 10 folks in jobs so what are we doing with the other 90 people? that my friends, is when community comes into play. and this can be applied to any industry. heck if you have a lawn care business. not everyone needs their lawn cut everyday so what lawn tips are you giving them daily? maybe you are hosting a class to show people how to properly weed eat their lawn? (i need this obviously).
bits and bytes:
appreciate you reading through this email newsletter as always. if you need anything let me know! me and the torc community team are here for you throughout your career!
much love and welcome home,
