What is the EU Deforestation Regulation?

What is it???
The new regulation means if you are exporting cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya and wood (and products made from them like chocolate, leather and paper) to the EU, you need to make sure these products didn’t cause deforestation, negatively impact the local environment or local communities.??
Who is impacted??
Any company exporting products to the EU using the designated commodities or related products.?
When does it come into force??
It will be effective from the 30th December, 2025 for large companies and from June 2026 for SMEs.?
What will exporters of these products need to do??
All exporters of these products will have to provide the relevant due diligence paperwork to validate the sourcing of the products.?
How will it be enforced???
The directive will be enforced by government agencies. However, it also allows for the other private parties to raise concerns about products.?
What are the penalties???
Penalties will range from fines and confiscation of product to exclusion from market.??
