What is an Elevator Pitch?

What is an Elevator Pitch?

Opportunity frequently starts with a first impression, so making a good one is essential.

Elevator Pitching, or an Elevator speech, is a quick synopsis of your experience, strength, background, and objective. It is called Elevator pitch because an individual must be able to present a short but enough speech during a brief elevator ride.?

This speech is about who you are, what you do, what you want to do or learn, and so forth.? Your elevator pitch is your way not just to impress the client or interviewer but to share your expertise and credentials as quickly and effectively. Your elevator pitch is just as valuable for virtual interviews as in-person gatherings.

WHY IS ELEVATOR PITCHING IMPORTANT?

The reality is we are always selling—all of us, all the time.?

During interviews, we try to sell our ideas, visions, and goals in various ways to get in. When someone asks for your advice, you’re hoping that they will take and follow it. When you propose an idea, you are selling your idea, and you would want them to implement it.?

Elevator Pitching is crucial because it communicates the essential factors of your brand and services in a short period. If well done, it indeed leaves a striking impression on whoever you are communicating with.?

YOU SHOULD BE CONFIDENT AND PERSUASIVE. Don’t dwell too much on having a short period of time; your speech should be captivating enough to get the listeners’ attention and make them become interested in what you’re presenting.

YOUR SPEECH SHOULD BE BRIEF. Maximize your 60 seconds in a good way. Please give them a short recap of who you are and what you do.?

TALK ABOUT YOUR SKILLS. Your speech must summarize what you are and the unique qualifications you acquire. Focus on your strength and brag about it proudly and respectfully.

PRACTICE. Be comfortable and confident, and familiarize the flow of your speech.

One of the best things about perfecting your pitch is its time efficiency. Your elevator pitch can be filled with every aspect of your identity, marketing strategies, identity, and so forth.?

WHAT NOT TO SAY AND DO DURING YOUR ELEVATOR SPEECH

DON’T SPEAK TOO FAST. It’s a fact that you’re only given a short period to preach everything. However, never compensate for the quality of your speech by talking so fast that the person in front of you will not understand you.?

STICK WITH YOUR SCRIPT. This is why practice plays a vital role in mastering your elevator speech. You don’t have to over-rehearse and end up sounding like a robot.?

Communicate with who you’re talking to by letting them interact with you by asking probe questions; this will help you not get off track and be comfortable.

Despite its short length, an effective pitch requires hours to create, revise, and practice in front of the mirror. The more practice you put into it, the more confident you’ll be, and it will come naturally.?

Confidence is key to gaining the attention and trust of your future investors or employers. And remember — elevator pitches are important, but you should always be prepared to go deeper into detail if the opportunity arises.

The last job I had was with the government as a civilian. The question that got me the job was, "What about my resume or interview worries you?" Or something like that. I don't remember the exact words. If you're confident enough to openly ask for honest criticism, not only will it help you learn for next time instead of keep guessing... But it shows you're not afraid of - many many things!
