What on earth is health coaching and why is it so significant for your future?

Being healthy enables you to live a life to your full potential in every age.
We often look to sources of change in our health outside of ourselves - trying to adopt exercise routines that someone else has used or prescribed, specific cleansing diets or short-term weight loss programmes, dietary theories, or the latest trendy fad diets. These are often short term and are rarely successful because they happen without the change in the way of our being, thinking and behaviour around food and life in general. A powerful coaching conversation facilitates deeper self-understanding and reflection, which helps to evolve the mindset alongside the guidance and adjustments made to diet and lifestyle. Coaching enables us to step into the new way of being where we fully embrace our future and the possibilities that a strong, long-term health brings with it.
Health coaching is a unique and powerful interaction that helps clients open up the world of possibilities that they would not have envisioned for themselves or took action to achieve what they desire on their own. It is based on deep, meaningful conversation, guidance, education, support and help to enable you to see the things that are working against you which you cannot see for yourself. Removing the barriers to change leads to transformation in health and lifestyle in a way that works for you long term, and which transforms your life.
The individualised and personalised attention and support is often groundbreaking for clients who would not typically find this in their 'relationship' with a doctor or a therapist. Doctors are not trained in nutrition, behavioural changes and transformation, and therapy focuses more on talking about the things that happened in the past. Health coaching on the other hand helps to overcome the past by focusing on the present and the future. It focuses on creating a different, more exciting future that is very different to the 'default future' one would get without the support from a coach. Having a health coach enables people to tap into their full potential and the power for change and creativity that lies within them.
My role of a health coach is to empower my clients to reconnect with their minds and bodies, and understand themselves better. The deeper level of self-awareness helps clients tackle and address certain behaviours and bad habits which have been working against them for so long. Without this kind of inner work over a sustained period of time it is harder for people to make the necessary changes to regain health, because change is hard as we have a natural resistance to it as a survival mechanism.
While most people know that they need to change, they also have 'good' reasons why not to change, or delay the start of the process. This kind of ambivalence makes it very hard for people to change. I coach my clients through this resistance to change which needs to be overcome and work with people in a way that makes them realise their own power and potential there and then.
