What is e-learning?
Introduction
E-learning defined
E-learning simply means electronic means of acquiring information or knowledge. E-learning can be defined as the use of computer and Internet technologies to deliver a broad array of solutions to enable learning and improve performance. It is generally known as ‘Online Learning’ which is the type of education that takes place over the Internet. E-learning is mostly misguided as distance learning. However, both terms share a similar and different ideas. E-learning or online learning could be blended or distributed. Although, it could be the umbrella term for any learning that does not take place in a traditional classroom.
While E-learning is a form of learning that involves network devices, distance learning could be administered online or in-class from a distant location or time. By far the most popular approach today is e-learning or online learning. A majority of academic leaders believe that online learning quality is already equal to or superior to face-to-face instruction.
Benefits of Online Teaching and Learning
Why online learning and why now? Online learning meets the needs of an ever-growing population of students who cannot or prefer not to participate in traditional classroom settings. These learners include those unable to attend traditional classes, who cannot find a particular class at their chosen institution, who live in remote locations, who work full-time and can only study at or after work, and those who simply prefer to learn independently. The minimum requirement for students to participate in an online course is access to a computer, the Internet, and the motivation to succeed in a non-traditional classroom. Today, e-learning seems to take the form of traditional learning by the use of virtual classrooms which enhances synchronous and asynchronous methods of teaching. Online courses provide an excellent method of course delivery unbound by time or location allowing for accessibility to instruction at anytime from anywhere. Learners find the online environment a convenient way to fit education into their busy lives. The ability to access a course from any computer with Internet access, 24 hours a day, seven days a week is a tremendous incentive for many of today’s students. Some of the main advantages of online learning include:
·???????Convenience: 24/7 access from any online computer; accommodates busy schedules; no commuting, no searching for parking.

·???????Improved Administration: Time to examine student work more thoroughly; ability to document and record online interactions; ability to manage grading online.
·???????Savings: Accommodate more students; increased student satisfaction = higher retention and fewer repeats.
·???????Maximize Physical Resources: Lessen demand on limited campus infrastructure; decrease congestion on campus and parking lots.
·???????Outreach: Give students options; reach new student markets; appeal to current students, thus increasing enrollments.

1 年Why is e learning important? What are its benefits? The e-learning market has seen phenomenal growth in recent years. Statista found the global market had reached a value of $200 billion U.S. dollars in 2019 and is projected to be worth $400 billion by 2026.? The e-learning option has become much more prominent for businesses interested in corporate training, but what is its popularity? What has made it such a significant force, and what are its benefits? A large part of e-learning’s importance comes from the current Digital Age. Developments such as gamification and cloud hosting have made e-learning more accessible, viable, and engaging. The pandemic may also have impacted the market, which saw more people than ever working remotely and utilizing previously unused online resources to carry out tasks. And yet, even with so many of us returning to office work, the online training market doesn’t seem to show signs of slowing down. The truth is that the ‘importance’ of e-learning is directly linked to the value of corporate training in general. e-Learning makes the benefits of?employee training?easier to access and realize, so more businesses are taking notice!
