Aditya L1 is the first Indian mission to study the Sun. Launched on 2 September 2023 from the launch pad at Sriharikota. Aditya-L1 will take up to four months to travel to the Lagrange point.
Surya (Sun) is also known as Aditya in Sanskrit. L1 refers to Lagrange Point 1, the exact place between the Sun and Earth. Moreover, the point has the presence of the gravitational force of the Earth as well as the Sun.
Once Aditya-L1 reaches the point, it will be orbiting around the Sun and Earth at the same rate, which will be beneficial for the low consumption of fuel by the spacecraft.
Here are the objectives of Aditya-L1;
1. To study the atmospheric dynamics of the upper solar.
2. To study and provide data on the particle dynamics from the Sun.
3. To study the Temperature, Velocity, and Density.
4. To identify the sequence of the process which leads to solar eruptive events.
5. To study the magnetic field and its measurement in the solar corona.
6. To study the drivers of solar weather, especially the origin, composition, and dynamics of solar winds.
After exceptional success in becoming the first country to land on the South Pole of the Moon, ISRO gave one more reason for Indians to be proud. The launch of Aditya L1 is the first step towards achieving the completion of ISRO's first solar mission.
