There is no doubt that India is Canada's most prominent global talent source.
Canada welcomed over 405,000 immigrants in 2021, a record number. Indians make up nearly a third of these immigrants.
The country welcomed almost 450,000 international students last year, with Indians representing about 50% of this number.
There were also approximately 10,000 Indians sent to Canada as part of the Temporary Foreign Workers Program. In addition, more than 130,000 Indians were granted work permits under the International Mobility Program.
There is no doubt that international factors, as well as domestic factors, can play a significant role in the high rate of Indian immigrants to Canada.
As an international country, India is home to a growing middle-class population with the education, language skills, work experience, and settlement funds that Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) needs to approve a visa application.
For all Indians looking to move to Canada, whether permanently or temporarily, as foreign workers, or as international students, these characteristics are imperative.
Increasing numbers of Indian foreign workers have been moving to Canada in recent years to pursue permanent residence due to the lack of permanent residence pathways in the U.S.
Indian talent has benefitted greatly from changes to Canada's immigration policy domestically.
The IRCC introduced Express Entry in 2015 to manage its main immigration programs for economic classes.
Several factors were taken into account when introducing the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) such as age, education, language skills, work experience, and other factors such as having Canadian education and experience.
Indians are easily the top source of successful candidates who receive permanent residence through Express Entry, given the above characteristics they possess.
Indians, for example, have an advantage over many other nationalities because of their English proficiency.
To enable eligible Indians to fast-track their studies in Canada, IRCC launched the Student Direct Stream (SDS) in 2018.?

The SDS allows Indians to get their permits more quickly if they meet certain criteria.
In addition, SDS applications have a higher approval rate than normal study permit applications.
Indians have an advantage under Express Entry as well as many other Canadian immigration programs such as the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) when they study in Canada and then move to work here.
Keeping in mind Canada's large Indian diaspora and the increased prevalence of Indian culture throughout the country is another major domestic factor to consider.
Indians who move to Canada feel at home here and are supported as they settle and integrate.
A Census 2016 report reports that Canada has about 1.4 million Indian citizens, but Census 2021 data will likely show a much larger number.
As the number of Indians moving to Canada continues to increase, the trend is likely to continue.

Canada no longer has travel restrictions prohibiting Indians from physically beginning their education in the country, unlike earlier in the pandemic.
For international students who want to count their entire Canadian education towards their Post-Graduation Work Permit, they must be physically present in Canada.
