What Is Driving The Historic Growth In India's Rooftop Solar Power Sector?

After many years of lull, India's sleepy rooftop solar power sector has sprung into action with more than 1,000 megawatts of rooftop solar capacity added in the past six months alone, according to the renewable energy ministry data.

Component A provides subsidies to the residential sector for 4 GW of capacity, and component B provides incentives to discoms for an initial capacity of 18 GW. Subsidies for the residential sector have been restructured with an availability of 40 percent CFA for up to 3 kW capacity and 20 percent for capacity beyond 3 kW and up to 10 kW. Why the mega acceleration? According to Gaurav Keswani, associate vice-president, HomeScape - the residential rooftop solar arm of Amplus Solar - the pace of rooftop solar installations in India's residential segment is being accelerated by factors such as rising demand for cost savings and heightened awareness among residential consumers about the benefits of solar power.

Indian Enterprise Sustainability: The Journey Towards Net Zero Emissions

While the country has made significant progress towards meeting its emissions reduction targets under the Paris Agreement, total greenhouse gas emissions are projected to increase by over 40% by 2030 with current policies.

To achieve net zero emissions by 2070, it is crucial for Indian corporations to understand their role in the sustainability journey.

Corporates should conduct a comprehensive assessment of their carbon footprint by identifying all sources of greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain, including Scope 3 emissions.

Based on the carbon footprint assessment, they should set ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

An enterprise must implement measures to reduce emissions and involve employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders.

Indian corporations can play a vital role in achieving India's net-zero carbon emissions goal.

Develop a sustainability strategy that aligns with the organization's overall mission and goals, conduct a comprehensive assessment of the organization's carbon footprint, and set ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
