What Drives you at Work?

Recently, I was on a trip with my childhood BFF. She was asking me about my views on work schedules and this idea that if everyone is not 100% consumed with work tasks (ie over scheduled) than they may not be showing their full value to their employer.
This is a culture pitfall that I think can be dangerous. And, I may be victim to it from time to time. Being over scheduled can cause burn out, diminish creativity, add stress to co-worker relationships and overall lower productivity. Being busy is not what drives me at work. If I find what drives me and I focus on that wouldn't that be better than focusing on an illusion?
I am driven by mission 100%. I HATE personal conflict. I thrive off of autonomy. I enjoy the creative process. Like any good relationship the first step is knowing myself. The second step is making the right partner selection and the third is communicating with my partner my needs and boundaries.
I fully acknowledge not all of us are in the position to pick and whose where we work and who we work with, however, I always knowledge is power. If you know yourself and where you want to be that is the first step in getting there.

2 年Great article. I have been saying this for years. People believe that being busy is being productive and worthy of praise. When you find your passion and purpose in life you will feel much better and be more productive. Helping others especially service members is by far my passion and I now work at place where I can do that. Keep up the good work, Martha!!
