WHAT DRIVES THE MD, CEO OR BUSINESS OWNER?
What drives a Managing Director, a CEO, a founder of a company or a founder of a cause (whatever that cause is) or a business owner? ever wonder that?
They put themselves through a grind of handling multiple tasks throughout the day that over long and short term are stressful, they keep pushing through barriers and stops, they have to pay salaries to some hard working employees and even the unproductive employee, deal with upsets of employees, more barriers, more failures to get business or close deals, IRS problems or SARS (in South Africa), legal issues, people problems, more people problems.
They put themselves through financial stress at times that is detrimental to their lives, their family lives and even opt to cut their own salaries to be able to afford the salaries of their own employees, surely one must wonder what causes a man to be so determined to do that.
What keeps them motivated, what makes them so dedicated, what drives them?
They risk it all, they risk their lives or risk failure for success when it comes to their business and it's successes. Some of us wouldn't even risk more than R20 or even R100 in a bet, yet they risk a whole lot more.
I once attended a seminar held by a owner of a very successful Drug Rehabilitation Centre he started up on mount Fiji and this man spoke about the troubles, the stresses and the risks he had to take and go through, including resigning from his own job, including taking actions that were straight up going to risk his ability to feed and take care of his own family, for this cause and I sat there in wonder asking myself who does that?
What kind of man would risk so much for such a cause?
At another seminar I attended held by a very influential minister in America, one who is the founder of a very successful educational institution aimed at educating youth, men and woman, he talked about the actions he had to take, the risks he had to be willing to take in order to be able to educate his people, bring about peace in his community and by his actions and dedication literally brought peace to groups of people who had been warring for probably 60 years. Again, I asked myself, who the hell does that?
What kind of man would do such as thing?
I quickly came to realise that MD's, CEO's, Business Owners are no different. Each have their own horror stories to tell and own threats and pressures they had to get through in order to be able to reach and get to the top. Yet the question still remained, what drove them to do this?
And you know what that is? Their purpose. One to another, its the common denominator amongst them and that purpose is to help.
I recall listening to a lecture delivered by a best selling author and this man said, paraphrased, that the biggest right there is, is the right to help. I found this rather fascinating because this man is also a best selling author, he has successfully influenced and helped millions of people around the globe and has the fastest growing humanitarian organisation in the 21st century. He is a founder, an owner of a very successful, pro-survival cause and he is saying the exact same thing every other successful business man, owner, CEO or MD is saying.
And they're all successful.
From this I immediately deduced that your success is directly proportional to the amount of people you can touch and give valuable help.
All business owners, CEO's, MD's and founders of pro-survival causes are driven by just this one fact, to help.
The bakers feeds the community, he is helping men and women eat, the doctor cures the sick, he is valued by millions for saving lives, continuing to save life or bring safely into the game of life the newborn, he is helping people, the minister consoles the troubled, he is valued for his advice and he helps, the mechanic fixes your car so you can get to work and be able to safely transport oneself and one's family, he helps, the business owner gives jobs and money so another can care for themselves, their family and be financially free, he helps, the company gives you a service you value and your gratitude is in the form of money because they've helped you.
We are all here to help one another grow prosper, to live successfully and happily ever after.
But, like it has been said "nothing worth achieving has been easily achieved" all the successful know this hence why they keep pushing because they also know the rewards are worthy.
That is the single difference between the successful, the great and those that are not. They have a very strong purpose and desire to help.
And what will they give to be able to do that for their fellow man?
Their own lives. And we've seen it. I think this is the most noble and honourable quality of man.
