What Drains You?
This is the second article in a series about making the best of your time. Yesterday I wrote about enjoying what you do in terms of communication and building deep relationships built upon deep conversations. Today, I focus on eliminating what drains you and your time.
In a word …distractions!
It's time to take a closer look at what might be sapping your energy and learn how to eliminate these drains from your life.
Before you can eliminate distractions, it is essential that you understand what they are. Begin by reflecting on your daily life, both in terms of your activities and your interactions with others. Ask yourself some basic questions:
There are some other culprits that need to be identified and delt with:
1. Physical Drains: Overworking, lack of exercise, poor diet, and inadequate sleep can all deplete your physical energy.
2. Emotional Drains: Toxic relationships, unresolved conflicts, and self-doubt are common sources of emotional energy drains.
3. Environmental Drains: A cluttered, disorganized space can drain your mental energy. Similarly, a noisy, chaotic environment can contribute to stress.
4. Work-Related Drains: Stressful job responsibilities, excessive workload, and lack of job satisfaction can sap your energy.
5. Time Wasters: Identify any habits or activities that consume your time without providing any real value or satisfaction.
How do you deal with these distractions? I know, you are probably thinking again that it is “just not that simple.” But it can be if you try! Getting started is the most difficult step. After that, it can flow much cleaner. The first step is to develop a plan. Your plan might include:
1.????? Setting boundaries, learning to say no!
2.????? Prioritizing self-care, learning to understand how you are impacted and affected by all your distractions.
3.????? Addressing emotional drains, seeking more support for the things that are bothering you.
4.????? Decluttering and organizing the things in your environment that are distracting you.
5.????? Re-evaluate the demands of your life.
