What does your inner chatter sound like?

Hyper-achiever: Competitive and goal oriented, yet never satisfied with success.?

Hyper-vigilant: Anxious due to constant expectation of mishap or danger.?

Hyper-rational: Intense, active mind, sometimes coming across as intellectually arrogant.?

Controller: Strong need to control situations and how others should behave?

Stickler: punctual, methodical, striving for perfection in oneself and others.?

Restless: Stays busy, juggling many different tasks and plans.?

Avoider: Downplays conflict or problems and says yes to the wrong things.?

Pleaser: Strong need to be liked, and earns it by helping, rescuing, or flattering.?

Victim: When criticized or misunderstood, tends to withdraw or want to give up.?

We all have inner voices that tell us what is wrong with our situation, or with Team members and nearly always what is wrong with us.?

Effective leadership communication depends on our ability to recognize and manage our inside voice in a way that brings out the best of ourselves so that we can bring out the best in others.?

Over the summer, each week I dedicated an article to each of the common thought patterns that take on the personas listed above. Did you recognize anything familiar????

When I took the Saboteur Assessment a few years ago, the light went on!? Every day since, I have been practicing how to keep those voices turned down during every conversation.? My top three are the first on this list – but I have caught every one of them sneaking into my thoughts.???

The impact of becoming aware of those voices has led me to create the Mindset+Skillset+Matchset Program for Leaders?. Because every interaction with a Team Member starts with your thoughts and feelings.? Getting your ‘mindset’ in a good place is crucial to setting the right tone with your communication with others.???

Once you know how your saboteurs rob you of productive conversations, you won’t want to go back.???

Soooo true! I don’t want to go back because it’s beautiful on the other side! And … it is a daily practice to continue to strengthen my awareness in order to recognize the thoughts/voices in my mind (and feelings in my body) and remember that they are normal, conditioned reflexes of self-protection. I can shift out of them and into an empowering mode.
