What does Tech Sales even mean?

Whenever someone asks me what I do for a living and I hit them with "Tech sales," there's always this moment of silence that usually means one of two things. Either they're genuinely curious and ask me to explain what that means, or they fake it and nod their head like they're in the know because it's 2023 and we're all supposed to be tech-savvy. In that case, they just assume that my job is something important and quickly change the subject to something they're more familiar with.

But then there's that rare breed of one-percenters who actually know what tech sales is, and we can skip the awkward explanations and talk shop.

That's why I've taken it upon myself to write this piece - to illuminate what my job as a tech sales pro actually entails. It's a crucial aspect of the technology industry, but not everyone gets it. So, in this article, I'm going to give you the lowdown on what tech sales is, what it entails, and why it's such a big deal in tech.

Ready? Let's do it!

Tech sales is all about selling technology products or services to customers. That could be anything from software and hardware to cloud-based solutions and other tech products.

As a tech sales pro, my job is to work with customers to understand their needs and provide them with the right solutions.?This might include finding new customers, figuring out which customers are the best fit, and closing deals. I might also work with product teams to help create new products and services.

Tech sales is important because it helps connect customers with the technology they need to be successful. Good salespeople are skilled at building relationships, identifying customer needs, and crafting solutions that meet those needs. They might also be good at navigating the complexities of a sale, negotiating deals, and closing deals in a competitive marketplace.

Generally, tech sales is a dynamic field that requires a mix of technical knowledge, sales skills, and customer service expertise. If you're interested in pursuing a career in tech sales, there are plenty of resources and training programs out there to help you develop the skills you need to succeed.

So, the next time someone asks you what tech sales means, just send them this article.

You're welcome!

One thing she said and some tech sales people overlook is building relationships. Not just tech sales but sales generally. We should be big on building relationships and learning from each other. Nice one Oluwatunmise Ishola

Thanks! This is enlightening! Looking forward to more about this from you.??

That is good of you Oluwatunmise Ishola and the icing on the cake for the employer is when we close a deal. Hence, we are also revenue-generating professionals (??) for our employers. Win-win for the customers and the employer. I would love to read more of your thoughts going forward.
