What does it take to kill a dream?

What does it take to kill a dream?

After following Grand Cardone for some time now I could summarize the core of his teachings in a simple principle - our potential as human beings is truly unlimited. While I could not possibly disagree with that statement, I've been thinking about the reasons why people fail to discover their gifts and thus give up on their dreams. If we strip down all the regular excuses it really boils down to two major factors.

Self-talk

We are the producers of the projections we call "life". It is up to us whether we are going for a drama, comedy or tragedy. Our minds represent a powerful framework that works on perceptions about the world. The things we touch and see "feel" so real to us that we are reluctant to rationally question their actual existence. Often we treat ideas and conceptions the same way as well. Our minds love patterns and models of behavior. That's why we either see and identify things as good or bad. There is nothing in the middle. Therefore, the way we portrait reality through self talk will have a drastic impact on the qualify of our lives.

Still remember how shaken I was the first time I heard about the "everything is possible" concept. Back then I was about 13 and basketball was my whole world. I could never forget my initial reaction - doubt. My childish mind instantly got all serious and began to build up a scenario to prove my ludicrous assumption absurd and off-target. It only took a couple of seconds. After that I was sure you could not possibly score from a mile away. Hurrey! Back then I did not quite realize that's how the mind works. It is super creative when it comes to finding reasons why you would fail. It is the pitfall that destroys so many still-born dreams.

We suffer severely from the boundaries we set for ourselves. It is almost funny that with a scientific chance of us being born the way we are of practically zero we classify ideas as "unrealistic" or "out of reach". If you take a moment to reflect you will agree there is no rational reason to be scared or confused - only repeated and focused action could be the true validation of what's possible - not what we perceive in our minds.

The Environment

While it is true that we become who we associate with over time, there are aspects we simply cannot pick or control. Just think about the last time you shared your innovative and bold ideas with your family members. They instinctively offered you nothing but rejection in their efforts to protect you. It helps to bear in mind that the unknown has terrified our predecessors since the dawn of time and there is not much we could do about it.

Our environment is shaping us to certain extend but it is also a healthy background for us to realize we need change. If you are happy and content with the status quo there is not much reason to grow and evolve. Our micro worlds and social capsules are not just a product of life. They are reflections of our own attitude. It's up to us to make a decision and follow it bravely.

So what's your decision going to be? Are you letting your inner self doubt or unfit environment dictate your future? If you are on the verge of giving up, do you already have plan B in gear? You are not alone in your struggle. Just keep pushing and don't let your dreams be a victim to circumstances. Make them a triumph of your will and perseverance.
