What does it take to get to world-class?
Erik Hupjé
Escape the vicious cycle of reactive maintenance: less downtime, less work, lower costs and less stress
What does ‘world-class’ look like??
In F1 racing, world-class looks like this.?
This is a video of a pitstop that only takes 1.82 seconds.?
That’s pretty fast!? ?
Just imagine changing car tires faster than parking your car.?
But you know, pitstops weren’t always like this.??
And this doesn’t happen by chance.??
To get from 67 seconds to 1.82 seconds...??
You need a mastery of the basics.??
You need a highly detailed plan.??
You need advanced technology.??
You need continuous improvement.??
You need a dedicated and disciplined team.???
And every time you beat your previous record...?
It just gets harder and harder to improve by even a few milliseconds.?
That’s why world-class pitstops actually take 1000 to 1200 practice sessions before a racing season starts!?
The same goes with maintenance and reliability.?
To achieve that 1.82-second pitstop, to achieve world-class reliability—?
You need a mastery of the basics.??
You need a highly detailed plan.??
You need advanced technology.??
You need continuous improvement.??
You need a dedicated and disciplined team.???
But let me ask you this...?
Do you really need to achieve world-class??
See, many organisations aren’t ready for world-class.??
And often, they don’t really need world-class reliability.?
What most organisations really need is simply a way out of their reactive maintenance. A way out of the 1950s pitstop and into a more modern standard of say, a 10-second pitstop.?
And mastery of the basics is a MASSIVE step in the right direction.?
By doing the basics right, you can get to 70% to 80% of the way.?
The basics will carry you a LONG way.?
The problem is... many organisations don’t even have the basics in place.?
That’s why they struggle with reactive maintenance.?
They don’t have an effective planning & scheduling process.?
They have an inefficient preventive maintenance program.?
They lack a defect elimination program.?
They don’t have supportive leadership.?
And despite lacking the basics...?
They invest in shiny new software, with all the bells and whistles.?
They were sold the “benefits” of these software solutions by some vendor.?
But the truth is, they’re not ready to fully utilise this technology.?
That’s why before anything else...?
Before buying into what those software vendors are selling you...?
If you really want to escape the vicious cycle of reactive maintenance...?
Then you need to train your team in HOW to implement the basics.?
And that is what the Road to Reliability Framework is all about.?
No, this framework doesn't aim to make you world-class.?
But it does get you a BIG STEP away from being stuck in the 1950s pit stop, in the simplest most economical way possible.?
If that’s something you’re interested in, then let’s hop on a quick strategy call.?
Let’s discuss how we can train your team to successfully implement the basics of maintenance and reliability in your orgranisation.?
P.S. Whenever you're ready, here are 3 ways we can help you on your Road to Reliability:

10 个月Well said Erik! Fully agree. This WCM leads often to a situation, where basics are not done properly leading to frustration in middle mgmt: top is dreaming of WCM and funding things that does not have foundation to support them. Huge waste of money, time, resources and destroying fun at work.
