What Does it Take to Find Your Purpose?

What Does it Take to Find Your Purpose?

It has been 10 months since joining the world of entrepreneurship, and I find myself sitting in my newly transformed home office in a place of reflection. I have spent over 25 years working in high tech sales and sales leadership.

In those 25 years, I worked for some of the greatest brands in America: AT&T, Cisco, Salesforce.com, and TiVo, to name a few. These companies afforded me the opportunity to work with customers across all industries in cities around the world. So, why would I leave that cocoon of comfort?

I loved what I did! I loved it so much that I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Leading teams of individuals inspired me to learn about human behavior and what drives success. While driving revenue for these companies was my “role,” it was the interaction and privilege of coaching others to peak performance that drove me. When I was transitioning from my last corporate role, I had to think about what motivates me to wake up each day.

I boiled it down to the mere ability to motivate, inspire, and coach others. Once I realized that, I knew I had to go out on my own to make that my primary focus. Hence, I now consult, coach, and stand in front of as many people as possible to motivate and inspire them.

My advice to others who wonder if they are living their passion and purpose is to ask yourself one question. On a scale from 0 to 10, how happy are you? Once you determine that, figure out the various aspects of your life that influence your happiness quotient. When you come up with the list of those levers, you can set your course and find your path.

“I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth will I apply ALL my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy.” Og Mandino

I love how you simplify such a complex topic into something that is digestible for almost anyone! I too care a great deal about purpose and helping people is at the root of why I do what I do. Thanks for posting!
