What does it take to eat together?

What does it take to eat together?

On a morning walk, I suddenly stopped in my tracks looking at a wonderful sight (captured in the picture above). Parrots, pigeons and squirrels were eating together from grains spread across on the ground. The sight was so beautiful and made me think, why is it that these birds can be together and share their world with each other so selflessly? Why is it that we as human can’t do the same so effortlessly? Why is it that we hesitate to appreciate the other person when we genuinely feel it? Why do we hesitate to share our world/our feelings/thoughts with others who are not like us? What is it that we can learn from these sweet and innocent creatures? Sharing some thoughts running in my mind on how we can achieve the above:

1.     Always be yourself, be authentic and be secure about who you are. The birds and the squirrels didn’t feel any threat from each other as they were able to create a safe space for them.

2.     Never shy away if your friends / family / people around you are unlike you. Our uniqueness adds the real flavor to the environment around us. This picture wouldn’t have been as beautiful if it only had all pigeons, right?

3.     Always be open to sharing your world with others. This is the best way in which we can be thankful for the opportunity and contribute to giving it back to the entire ecosystem around us.

4.     Be patient and positive. Focus on your part of the share, and not what/how much share others are getting/eating. There is enough for all of us. None of the creatures seemed to be bothered about how much their neighbor was eating. There was no attempt to hoard / disturb the others.

For me, this beauty of eating together is a representation of something that we as people can strive for i.e. peaceful co-existence.

So, do you think we can eat together? :)

Would love to hear your thoughts, comments and inputs!

P.S.: Since this is my first attempt at writing an article, any feedback would be really appreciated!

Very well written Nitin! The spirit of sharing and coexistence is so very natural among non humans; but your generation has much better understanding of shared nature of life. Thank you for expressing yourself!????
