What does the Swedish life science sector look like?

Today, Vinnova presented its report on the life science sector in Sweden up to 2022. It contains many exciting insights:
Life Science is growing
In 2022, there were approximately 52,400 employees in 3,838 companies within the Swedish life science sector, with a combined net turnover of SEK 474 billion. Larger companies accounted for the biggest increase in net turnover, which has nearly doubled since 2009. Around 130 companies were started each year in 2021 and 2022. The largest increase in employees was seen in Stockholm, Uppsala, and V?stra G?taland.
Life Science is profitable
Life science companies exported goods worth around SEK 186 billion in 2022, representing 7 to 11 percent of Sweden’s total goods exports. The production value reached SEK 324 billion, an increase of 99 percent since 2009.
Highly educated workforce
In 2022, 67 percent of employees in the sector had post-secondary education, and one-third of all PhD students at Swedish universities focused on life science-related subjects.
Where are the job opportunities?
Most jobs are found in Stockholm, Sk?ne, and V?stra G?taland, which also account for the highest number of start-ups in the sector.

My spontaneous reflection: 2022 was truly exceptional, with the pandemic impacting so much. Several companies, especially in medical technology and diagnostics, were started and grew as a direct result of COVID-19. Other businesses faced less interest or struggled with development due to restrictions and pressure on healthcare. I wonder how 2024 will look in hindsight.
