Powerhive's Mission of Sustainable Energy Solutions

At Powerhive, we have been at the forefront of Kenya’s transition to green energy since our founding in 2011 by Christopher Hornor. Our mission has always been clear: to provide clean energy and sustainable mobility. Powerhive began operations in Kenya’s Kisii County, where we focused on bringing electricity to areas that previously had none. Through innovative technologies, Powerhive introduced solar-powered microgrids that helped bridge the energy gap.

In a country where thousands still lack access to reliable electricity, our efforts have been transformative. Our approach centers on sustainable and renewable solutions designed to empower local communities by providing a reliable energy source that drives economic development and improves living conditions.

Sustainable Mobility: The Spark Electric Bike

In 2019, we expanded our vision by entering the electric mobility space. Staying true to our mission of sustainability, we launched the Spark Electric Bike, revolutionizing transportation in Kenya. The Spark Electric Bike offers an affordable, efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional motorbikes. Designed with sustainability in mind, the Spark Electric Bike runs on electricity, significantly reducing emissions and minimizing reliance on fossil fuels.

However, we recognized that for electric mobility to be truly sustainable, infrastructure needed to evolve in tandem with technology. This realization led us to develop an innovative battery swapping system. Instead of waiting for a bike’s battery to charge, riders can stop at one of our self service battery stations, swap their depleted battery for a fully charged one, and continue on their way. This system reduces downtime and makes the Spark Electric Bike a convenient and viable option for everyday use.

We have established a growing network of these battery swapping stations, with the latest addition in Rubis Ngong Town. With full Nairobi coverage and further expansion on the horizon, it’s now easier for electric bike riders to stay charged and keep moving. This reflects our commitment to creating a sustainable ecosystem for clean energy and electric mobility in Kenya.
