Hi guys. my name is Ajay Chhabra and I am here to share with you, my definition of success. what does success mean to me? I did my research on this topic for being able to create a small video for an entry into success gyan’s Super speaker contest season 2. The video duration is small but this article has useful information for the world.

Let’s me start by discussing what success is not:

Success is not about having millions of dollars in your bank account. Success is also not about being at a global CEO position and networking with peers in a very high society club every evening. Success is also not about Owning a fleet of cars or penthouses like Sultan of Brunei does. A success is also not about Doing what you love to do and when you want to do. Success is also not about having worklife balance and spending time with family. Success is also not about waking up any time in the morning. Success is also not about flashing your card without worrying about bank balance. Success is also not about spending time with the most beautiful women around the world. Success is also not about spending time with friends and travelling the globe.?

So what is the real meaning of success??

Success has various meanings to various people at their stage of life, their needs hierarchy stage as defined by Maslow, their values and the country they belong to.?

Success for a student might mean getting the first position in the class. Success for a athlete might mean winning Olympic gold medal. Success for a? Corporate sales person might mean achieving their sales quota and targets, quarter on quarter. Success for a working woman might mean being able to work from home in a global multinational company and taking care of her kid at home. Success for a doctor might mean being able to treat thousands of patients. Success might mean being able to land the plane well in the turbulent weather conditions for a pilot. Success Might mean entertaining millions of people around the globe with your new movie as a director. Success might mean diligently working for the upliftment of the fellow countrymen by a political leader.?

Let me ask you one question as well.?

Success might also mean a successful bank robbery without getting caught by the cops, for a bank robber. What is your opinion? Is this a success? If yes add your comments and if no add your comments.

To my mind real success has 10 key elements to it. You might be good at one but note at others. Finding the right balance of all these elements makes you really successful in life. These elements are as follows: Finding your purpose and passion in what makes you happy, setting & prioritising your goals, your own Health and fitness, fulfilling and rewarding career, happy family, joyful friends, your ethical contribution to the world economy, What you do for others in society, being religious and spiritual, and what have you achieved so for your country.

It also includes coming out of internal and expectation of other people and society around you, which makes you a slave of other people ideas ideas and you keep on living life without real happiness and success. So based on the above factors and principal value is being followed in life, each country has its own happiness index and wealth index.?

Let me explain these 10 Key elements of success:?

If you are doing a job as a professor and wanted to become a cyclist and you are successful in your teaching profession, you might be successful in the society by their lens, but you are still not successful in your own eyes.? This example defines my first element, finding your purpose and passion in what makes you happy. There might be scenarios and circumstances which force you to leave your passion but whenever you overcome the scenarios and circumstances, You should always go back to your purpose and passion. So finding your purpose and passion what makes you happy is the first element of being successful in life. If you haven’t done that, do that.?So success is all about Working on your passion without compromising your profession.

The second element to become successful is to be able to set and prioritise your goals as per your age, stage of your life and expectations of your friends and family members. These goals should be short-term, mid-term and long term. So maybe in the short term you are forced to work in a hotel, part time to be able to pay your school fee, but in the midterm your goal is to get good grades and good corporate placement so that you can achieve a long-term goal of having a successful career in corporate. The same example applies to an athlete or a potential footballer or a budding tennis player as they need to set their goals and expectations right by starting to win in local school, interschool and county level matches. So setting and prioritising your goals is the second element of being successful in life. If you haven’t done that, do that.

The third element of becoming successful in life is to able to take care of your health and do those activities which keeps you fit and fine. You might be a big corporate honcho and earning millions of dollars but if you are having high BP, high sugar, not even finding time to go for a walk. It you have been regularly visiting doctors and getting hospitalised and not been able to sleep every night without medicines. So from the money angle of society you’re successful but from your own health perspective you are a big failure. To take out time for walking every day, spending 30 minutes every day for doing meditation or yoga and having a balanced or vegetarian diet is being successful. So taking care of your health and fitness is the third element of being successful in life. If you haven’t done that, do that now.

The fourth element of becoming successful in life is to have a fulfilling and rewarding career. Beyond your family and being at home the maximum time people spend at their workplace. So if your passion is your profession or if you are working in a company which gives you enough opportunities for growth, Learning new capabilities, working on a new roles and assignments every three years and you are always supported by a great team and a decent leader, you are already sucessful. So make sure that as a human being we all have a dual role to play, One for our family and second for our career. So having a rewarding and fulfilling career is the fourth element of being successful in life. If you are not being appreciated at work and if you are doing something which you hate every day, please resign and come out of it and be more successful.

The fifth element of becoming successful in life is to have a happy family. If you are in a good relationship, have understanding wife, supporting parents and adorable kids with whom you are able to find time for sharing bedtime stories, you are successful.There are many stories of world’s top billionaires Who had to pay hefty amount of money to get a divorce so as to get into a second relationship. By the definition of material world, this billionnaire might be successful but internally if you or someone in your family is not happy you are not a truly successful person. So being happy with inner peace due to having a happy Family is one of the most important element of being successful in life. If you have not been able to devote time for your wife and kids do that now.

The sixth element of being successful Is life is being surrounded by 4 to 5 close and joyful friends, in your passtime, which helps relieve all your pain, work pressures etc. You will always have one or two friends with whom when you meet, you really feel delighted and happy can you wish you could spend more time with them. So having a bunch of joyful friends is another element of being successful in life. If due to any reason, you are not able to make new friends, go on solo trip, do a volunteering nd community work, travel by public transportation, join a club or a hobby class and speak to new and unknown people to make new friends.?

The seventh Element of being successful in life is about your ethical contribution to the wealth and economy. This might sound materialistic, but this is a reality. The way Mr Mukesh Ambani and Mr Gautam Adani are able to touch and influence the lives of thousands of their employees and shareholders, That is because they have their own contribution, hardwork, passion and trade secrets and know-how and have mastered the skill and art of wealth creation for the economy. That is why Warren buffet gets to auction his lunch meeting for worth $1 million. There are curious enough people every year to pay for that. So having your own contribution to the growth of world economy is another element of being successful in life.?

The eighth element of being successful in life is about what you do for others in your own capacity at various stages of your life. As a student planting a tree, helping a senior citizen in crossing a road is a good deed. Being a youth and being able to participate in dharna or rally in support a good societal cause or Involved in cleaning of community spaces and running for charity and fund raising Might make feel you happy and successful. After your mid-age of sound career in job or being entrepreneur if you are able to donate a large sum of your money to NGO makes you feel successful.?

I remember one of my recent good deed where in I helped a fellow student passanger, who was a student, while traveling in Delhi Metro and Getting late for his BA first year examination in a village in Haryana.So based on my connections in the education sector, i called up an ex-principal and he made a phone call To that principle, that this student is genuinely getting delayed to get into the exam centre and please let him enter. Although he was 45 minutes late but was able to enter the examination centre and complete his exam and felt so much delighted and happy as he was able to save his year. So if you are able to use your knowledge, contacts, influence, power to help someone in real need and are able to bring that smile on that person’s face makes you feel real successful in life.

The ninth element of being successful in life is to be a little bit religious and spiritual in nature. At the same time you have to ensure that you respect all the religions equally and do things which helps in spreading positivity and brotherhood amongst the people of different religions and races and ensures peace in the society. By being a real God-fearing person and spending few hours In the name of your religion can make you really successful in life. So if you’re not doing that, start doing that now.

The 10th and the last element of being successful in life is to measure that what have you done so far for your own country and for the benefit of the fellow countrymen. If you are working in society with no hidden agenda and genuine concern for your own countrymen, that will make you really successful in life. Everyone who dreams of living a life like that of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam or that of Mr. Narendra Modi Or that of Sh. Mahatma Gandhi who had sacrificed their own material well-being for their own country. So having a genuine concern for the development of your own country and the world at large Can make you really successful in life.

So to summarise what success really means to me is the sum total of the above 10 elements and also working towards developing those traits which are common to the most of the successful people such as working with passion, persistence and striving to achieve the goals you have set for yourself and not which, are imposed by your friends, family, job or society.?

So Success means bringing smiles to the faces of millions of people and being able to impact their lives in a positive way by following and balancing these 10 elements of success.

This definition is dynamic.

I currently have a successful corporate career spanning 23 years, out of which last five years, I have been invited as a speaker to a large number of schools, colleges, universities, B schools, institutions, even global corporate‘s and even got invited on international seminar on Geeta organised by haryana government. So if you were to ask me what is your definition of success at this juncture.?

My definition of being successful, at this juncture, is to being able to impart Skills and values, which I have learnt in my life and career, for their career advancement? of students, youth and corporate employees who are millions in number world over, which will help in ethical wealth creation for this world and eventually bring smiles to their faces and will increase the brightness in their eyes.
