What does it "Really" mean to be successful in sales?
Many years ago, I blindly entered into the sales field because I did not know what else I could do. Somehow, I ended up in the telecommunications industry at a time when the entire country had just gone through divistiture. I was very fortunate to have some really driven sales professionals take their time to make sure I understood that attention to detail and persistence makes a difference in success and failure. As we all know that being in sales today is still very challenging, but yet still very rewarding. I have learned that you can never rest on your laurels nor dwell on any failure for too long.
This past week, I had one of those moments we all have were effort was rewarded with signficant accomplishment. I had a coach that one time told me that hard work will win over raw talent every day. Approximately 1 year ago, I made a cold call visit to a new opportunity in the same building as an existing client. Of course, I know that cold calling is a lost art and is simply never going to work! Well that is what every digital marketing company in America is telling me. Regardless, I began a new opportunity by listening and listening to the needs of the client. We put a solution for products and services that addressed all of the operational and financial needs. This turned out to be a multi-million dollar account, which happend by hard work and some very simple skills that I see detailed every single day on this site.
The lesson that I have learned is that success can "Really" happen by working smart and hard every single day. Could I have simply got in my car that day and not stopped? Sure. I will continue to make the very most out of every single day and "Really" appreciate that I work in one of the fastest growing and most dynamic places in the country (Dallas, TX)!
